Geography and traffic

Nindorf is located on the north-western slope of the Nindorf ridge in the Aukrug nature park . In addition to moist meadows and loamy arable soils, the Feldmark has a high proportion of forest. history

The place belongs to the Holstein primeval villages. This is evidenced by 25 barrows from the younger Bronze Age, archaeological finds from the Iron Age and Migration Period and the field names. The place name is a reminder that the old settlement was completely destroyed in the fighting between Wenden and Holstein and then around the year 1000, exactly in the middle of its Feldmark, was planned as an anger village .

Legends and founding myths

According to an old tradition, the village originally stood about 1.5 to 2 km west on the road from Barlohe to Stafstedt. In the "Ridderwisch" located there, a forge is said to have once stood, where the knights had their horses shod. Displaced by water, the residents left this settlement and rebuilt their huts south of the current village. But now there was a lack of water and so the residents had to demolish their huts again, and now the present Nindorf was created.

In the Westerholz there was a stone that was so big that a team with two horses could have turned on it. The stone was thrown there by a giant. Once he was standing on the Boxberg near Homfeld and there he saw that a church was being built in Nortorf. He wanted to break it. He picked up a large stone, put it in his sling, and swung it over his head. But then one strand tore him and the stone flies over to the Westerholz. It was lying there for a long time, so Breitenstein was also called the forest. The hand could be seen on the stone where the giant touched it.
