history

etymology

In 1352 Loit was mentioned for the first time in writing in the Registrum capituli Slevicensis . Since the church was built in the 12th century, it can be assumed that the place is much older (probably from the time of resettlement fishing in 1150 after the departure of fishing for England ). At that time still with the oldest known place name Leuthe . In the centuries that followed, the spelling of the place name changed several times, around 1776 Loit was also referred to as Steffen-Loit (meaning the Loit bei Steinfeld ) to avoid confusion with other places with the same name ( Havetoftloit and Løjt Sogn ) in To prevent the Duchy of Schleswig . The place name either refers to the Old Danish løgh for washing water or is a plural form of Old Danish * lyktæ for a description of an enclosure. An interpretation according to Old Norse laukr for leek is also possible .

Place of election and historical significance

As a result of the long-standing demands of the German Bundestag in Frankfurt and the July Revolution of 1830 in France , the Danish King Frederick VI accepted the formation of provincial class assemblies in Holstein and other areas of southern Denmark on May 28, 1831 , and Schleswig was a member of the Loit. In fishing area, there were three constituencies, each of which occupied a place of election. Loit was part of the 16th electoral district of the duchy and one of the three polling places in Angling . Residents of the following parishes of Angelns had to vote in Loit:

There were essentially two reasons for choosing Loit as the election site. On the one hand, the place is centrally located in the south of fishing, on the other hand, it has a high historical memorability. According to documents and legends, people's assemblies were held in Loit in earlier times on a high field in the shade of sky-towing oaks between surrounding tribes and distant peoples, where a decision was made between war and peace. The election of the people's representatives took place in Loit, in memory of earlier times. The place must have been very important at the time of popular assemblies and resembled a kind of center of the area and was known far beyond the region.

Robber baron Borriswohld

Lore speaks of a medieval robber baron's castle near Loit. This is said to have been on a plateau in what is now the Eichtal forest (west of the community, near the Au ). The Geltinger pastor H. N. A. Jensen described the place with the name Borriswohld (probably named after a former neighboring farmstead) in a chronicle in 1844. Other authors again refer to Jensen or the tradition.

Developments since the 18th century

Loit has had its own local council since 1871, the chairman of which was H. Seemann as the first mayor .

School lessons have also taken place in the pastorate since 1769. Since 40 to 50 children were being taught in the rooms around 1912, the building was expanded. In 1954 a school building of its own was finally built right next to the pastorate, but the school only ran until 1967, after which the pupils moved to the surrounding communities. The old school building has been used as a children's home since 1991 and is called Kinderhaus Alte Schule Loit .

In 1883 a railway line of the Schleswig District Railway was opened between the city of Schleswig and the municipality of Süderbrarup , which served as a feeder for the railway between Kiel and Flensburg . Loit was also connected to this; one stop was in today's Schwienholt parcel until the line was closed in 1980 .

In the first half of the 20th century, the Loiter Meierei was a starting point for regional dairy farmers. It was taken over in 1969 by the Süderbrarup Meierei . At that time there was also an inn in Loit, which was built as a train station restaurant. This later burned down, the ruins can still be found on the outskirts in the direction of Schleswig . In 1972, a film studio was also planned on site, but this was not realized for financial reasons.

Land consolidation

Numerous roads were built in Loit in the 1960s. First, in 1961 and 1962, the roads to Schwienholt and Osterholz were expanded. The local road leading to Steinfeld was taken over by the district in 1963 and also expanded. Five years later, in 1968, the B201, which ran through the town, was expanded and relocated to the current route.

In 1965 and 1966 the land consolidation took place , which changed the landscape of the community considerably. As an example, there were around 81 km of bends in Loit in 1950 . After the land consolidation it was only about 15 km. After replacement plantings , this was only 27% of the previous kink density , although this value has decreased even more in the recent past due to the removal of further kinks.

politics

Community representation

Of the nine seats in the municipal council, the KWL voter community has had five seats since the 2013 local elections and the ABL voter community four.

coat of arms

Blazon : "Divided diagonally to the left by gold and green, above a blue wavy bar with a blue wash tub, below two open golden rape blossoms."

The washtub is a very rare representation in heraldry and refers to the original place name (see above). The wavy line under the wash tub represents the Loiter Au , which was used for washing in earlier times. The Loiter Au runs through the town in the middle. The two rapeseed blossoms represent the two districts of Loit and Muschau and illustrate the rapeseed fields in the fishing landscape and especially in Loit.

economy

The community is characterized by industrial agriculture . In recent times Loit, like many other villages, has undergone far-reaching changes. In the 1950s there were still a few shops and handicraft businesses, and rural agriculture dominated life, but that has changed. Agriculture has lost its importance, most of the villagers work outside the village or as freelancers.

Tourism

The Loiter Au flowing in the west of the municipality

Loit attracts attention beyond the region every year with the "Loiter Oldtimer and Agricultural Machinery Show" , which has been held every autumn since 2005. In addition, at the northern entrance to the village there is a dock on the Loiter Au for canoeists who use here almost every day in summer. Thanks to the good transport links and the proximity to the Schlei , there has been an increase in holiday apartments in recent years.

Attractions

The list of cultural monuments in Loit includes the cultural monuments entered in the list of monuments of Schleswig-Holstein .

Inside the church

The Romanesque hall church , which is a stone church , was built in the 12th century, the wooden tower ( bell stack ) only in 1762. The church received its current form in 1834 after the originally existing apse had become dilapidated and was demolished. The north side of the church is decorated with very simple frescoes from the 17th century depicting the story of the Passion. The pulpit is one of the oldest in Schleswig-Holstein . The church at Loit was originally a spin-off from the church at Tolk . Since the 1970s the church has lost its independent status and has been integrated into the neighboring parish of Süderbrarup . The parish of Loit, which only includes the municipality of the same name, is one of the smallest fishing spots .

Sports

TSV Loit was founded for the first time in 1924 . At that time, in addition to soccer, other sports such as gymnastics were offered in the sports club. At the beginning of the war , the association was dissolved and finally re-established on November 8, 1948. Shortly after it was founded, the club already had 300 members who left the club over time (mainly those who were displaced from their homeland ), as a result of which, for example, in football with the neighboring town of Grumby, a game community was founded under the name Loit-Grumby . After a few years the syndicate was ended and so TSV Loit was able to compete independently of other clubs in the men's area until 2000. In May 2000, due to the shrinking number of members, it was decided to found a new joint sports club called TSV Schleiharde with TSV Ulsnis-Steinfeld , which still exists today. Two years later, in May 2002, the football division of TSV Schleiharde and other sports clubs in the area became a pure football club called FC fishing 02 . After very successful years , due to the dwindling membership, FC fishing formed a syndicate with TSV Süderbrarup under the name SG Süderbrarup / fishing for the 2019/20 season .
