bb series
The pocket book series Cheap Books was a series of books from the Aufbau Verlag in Berlin , GDR . It was published as the first paperback series of the publishing house in 1958 and was discontinued 43 years later, after the political change with the establishment of the Aufbau-Taschenbuchverlag, in 1991. The spectrum of books essentially corresponded to the rest of the publisher's program, but there were a few first or even single editions here (e.g. Memory with Wings by Romain Gary ). A total of 622 titles with a total circulation of 39.5 million copies were published. The title of the series resulted from the two lower case letters of "Cheap books". In the first editions they were written in red on the background in various places without explanation, later in white in a black box in the upper right corner of the cover . To the left of this, in front of an otherwise white background, was the author, mostly in color, the title and, if applicable, the subtitle. The lower three quarters were adorned with a cover picture.
For example, the price for volumes 485 and 556 was 2.95 M , for the number 550 1.85 M, for other editions it was 3.75 M.
