Jimmy White / Achievements
This list features the achievements of snooker player Jimmy White . White, who is still a professional player, was one of the world's best in the 1980s and 1990s and has won a total of 34 titles, including the UK Championship and the Masters , as well as four other titles in his 40-season professional career in other sports. Furthermore, White went down in history as the best player who was never world champion, as he reached six World Cup finals and lost six times; thus he is not a member of the Triple Crown .
After a successful amateur career , White started his professional career at the beginning of the 1980/81 season and reached his first finals in 1981. Through several finals in ranking tournaments, he quickly rose to the top of the world and in 1984 only reached the final of the Masters , which he won against Terry Griffiths , and then the final of the World Snooker Championship , which he lost to Steve Davis.
From the mid-1980s, White won ranking tournaments for the first time, and he also reached the final of the UK Championship in 1987 . At times he moved up to second place in the world rankings, which he had to give up after two seasons. Even in the early 1990s, White was successful with several ranked tournament titles. At the same time, a series of defeats began with the 1990 World Snooker Championship , which should include all World Cup finals between 1990 and 1994. Sometimes White reached the decider , but he lost all finals, mostly against Stephen Hendry . With the UK Championship in 1992 he won his last ranking tournament for the time being, because at the end of the 1990s he could no longer stay in the top 10 of the world rankings.
After reaching the final of the British Open 2000 , he won the 2004 Players Championship, his last ranking tournament to date. In the 2005/06 season he reached the top 10 again with the eighth place in the world rankings, but subsequently his results deteriorated. Although he continued to be a professional player, he was now more focused on his work as a commentator. When he lost his professional status after 37 years at the end of the 2016/17 season , the world federation gave him a so-called "Invitational Tour Card" through which he retained his professional status. This authorization was renewed in 2019.
