About this picture
The couple valley near Schrobenhausen

The district of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen is located in the northwest of the Bavarian administrative district of Upper Bavaria and is part of the Ingolstadt planning region . The middle centers of the district are the cities of Neuburg adDonau and Schrobenhausen .

geography

location

The district extends in the north from the foothills of the Altmühltal and the Franconian Alb over the Danube lowlands with the district town of Neuburg and the adjoining Donaumoos in the middle of the district, to the Danube-Isar hill country around the sub-center Schrobenhausen in the south of the district.

Neighboring areas

Neighboring districts are in the north the district of Eichstätt , in the northeast the independent city of Ingolstadt , in the east the district Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm , in the south the district Aichach-Friedberg and in the west the district Donau-Ries ; the latter two districts belong to the administrative district of Swabia .

history

Regional courts

The district includes the area of the former Duchy of Neuburg-Sulzbach with its court in Neuburg and the area around Schrobenhausen, which once belonged to the Duchy or Electorate of Bavaria . In 1803 the district courts of Neuburg an der Donau and Schrobenhausen were established. From 1808 the district court of Neuburg belonged to the Altmühlkreis , from 1810 to the Oberdonaukreis , which from 1838 was called Schwaben and Neuburg , later just Swabia . The district court of Schrobenhausen belonged to the Isarkkreis from 1810 , which was renamed Upper Bavaria in 1838. In 1809, the city of Neuburg an der Donau already became a district . In 1852 the district community of Neuburg was founded.

District Offices

On January 1, 1862, the royal district offices of Neuburg and Schrobenhausen were established. The Neuburg District Office comprised the newly formed Neuburg City and Regional Court and the Schrobenhausen District Office the regional court of the same name. In 1879/80 the district of Neuburg was enlarged to include the area of the former Rain Regional Court , which had belonged to the Aichach district office since 1862 , as well as seven municipalities of the Donauwörth district office . But he had to hand over ten communities to the Ingolstadt district office .

Counties

On January 1, 1939, the uniform designation Landkreis was introduced in the German Reich . The district offices became the districts of Neuburg and Schrobenhausen.

In 1940 the city of Neuburg an der Donau was incorporated into the district of Neuburg, but this was reversed in 1948.

District of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen

As part of the Bavarian regional reform , which came into force on July 1, 1972, a new district of Neuburg adDonau was formed in the administrative district of Upper Bavaria from the following components :

On May 1, 1973, the district was given its current name, District Neuburg-Schrobenhausen . The city of Neuburg an der Donau lost its district freedom, but received the status of a large district town, the district office and the district seat to compensate. The old district of Neuburg had 61,000 inhabitants. The new district of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen emerged from the regional reform with around 73,000 residents and 740 square kilometers.

On May 1, 1978 the communities Ammerfeld and Emskeim moved from the Donau-Ries district to the Neuburg-Schrobenhausen district and were incorporated into the Rennertshofen community .

Population statistics

When it was founded on July 1, 1972, the district of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen had 73,000 inhabitants. By 2011 the population had grown by 26 percent to 91,898 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). 33 percent of the population fall into the age group up to 30 years of age, 49 percent are between 30 and 65 years old, and 18 percent are above. While many similarly structured regional authorities in Bavaria and Germany complain of a decline in population due to demographic change and migration to the urban conurbations, Neuburg-Schrobenhausen remains a growth region. In a forecast by the Bavarian State Office for Statistics and Data Management, a population increase of 1.5 percent is expected by 2031.

From 1988 to 2008 the district of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen gained almost 14,000 inhabitants or grew by around 18%. Between 1988 and 2018 the district grew from 77,441 to 96,680 by 19,239 inhabitants or by 24.8%.

The population figures from 1840 onwards refer to the territorial status on May 25, 1987.

District partnerships

The district has been in partnership with the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia since October 3, 1990 . The German reunification was just nine hours old when District Administrator Walter Peter from Pößneck and District Administrator Richard Keßler signed the partnership agreement between the two districts in the meeting room of the District Office in Pößneck. On the same day, an event took place in the district office in Neuburg an der Donau at which many citizens of the district celebrated the reunification and partnership. As a result, innumerable contacts were made at all levels - be it communities, associations, schools, parties or in private life - and the partnership was filled with life. When the Saale-Orla district emerged from the district reform in Thuringia on July 1, 1994 from the Pößneck, Schleiz and Lobenstein districts, the partnership was continued and sealed by a new contract. For the district administrators Peter Stephan and Richard Keßler it was a matter of course to continue and develop the good relationships. The partnership has consolidated over the years. The district of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen is traditionally a guest at the Saale-Orla-Show. In return, the Saale-Orla-Kreis introduces itself at the Schrobenhausen exhibition (SOBA).

coat of arms

Blazon : “The coat of arms is divided, at the top split by gold and black, in front a red-tongued and red-crowned black bear head, behind a red-armored and red-crowned growing lion; two blue wavy strips in silver below. "

The coat of arms was designed by Rudolf Scharl and approved on June 12, 1974 by the government of Upper Bavaria.

Economy and Infrastructure

The district of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen is characterized by a high level of economic power. The number of 29,052 employees subject to social insurance contributions (at the place of work) in all 18 municipalities of the district in 2012 was higher than ever since the district was founded in 1972. In a five-year comparison, the number of employees has increased by 11.7 percent in the same period in Bavaria since 2008 there was an increase of 6.8 percent.

The high dynamic of the increase in employment is also reflected in the positive development of the labor market. With a rate of 2.1 percent for 2012, this is well below the Bavarian state average of 3.6 percent and even more significantly below the national average. In October 2018, the unemployment rate in the Neuburg-Schrobenhausen district was 1.7%.

The framework data point to the high economic potential, which studies also confirm. The district of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen took 10th place in the district ranking of 2011 by the business magazine Focus Money, compared with over 400 German districts and urban districts. In the 2016 future atlas, the district of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen was ranked 94th out of 402 districts, municipal associations and independent cities in Germany, making it one of the places with “future opportunities”.

The economic strength is essentially based on the robust mix of industries in the district. Neuburg-Schrobenhausen is home to a number of innovative medium-sized industrial companies, plus a strong foundation of craft businesses. The best-known and largest companies in the district include Bauer AG , Sonax GmbH and MBDA . A special economic location factor is also the central location of the district in the city triangle Munich-Augsburg-Ingolstadt, which offers a first-class connection to the metropolitan areas.

The district is a member of the Regional Management Region Ingolstadt e. V. (IRMA) and the European Metropolitan Region Munich e. V. (EMM).

traffic

The district benefits from a well-developed infrastructure network that includes two federal highways and two railway lines.

Road traffic

The B300 runs close to Schrobenhausen and connects the middle center with the A9 (Langenbruck junction) and the A8 (Dasing junction). Neuburg is on the B16 , which ensures the connection of the district town to the A9 (Manching junction).

Rail transport

The Bavarian State Railway opened the Danube Valley Railway from Ingolstadt in 1874 via Neuburg upstream to Donauwörth and in the following year the Paartal Railway to Augsburg via Schrobenhausen . Today the route from Ulm via Neuburg and Ingolstadt to Regensburg is operated every hour by the provider Agilis . Schrobenhausen is connected to Augsburg in the south and Ingolstadt in the northeast via the Paartalbahn. There, too, passengers are now served by a private provider, the Bayerische Regiobahn .

The Dollnstein – Rennertshofen branch line led from the Altmühltal through the Jura to Rennertshofen since 1916. Passenger traffic was stopped here in 1960, but a museum railway was still in operation at times until 1993. The railway line has now disappeared. The former route is partly used for cycle paths.
