The season balance sheet of Hamburger SV shows the placement, the number of wins, draws and defeats, the goal difference and the number of points scored for each season. The seasons after the merger of the clubs SC Germania von 1887 , Hamburger FC von 1888 and FC Falke 06 on June 2, 1919, from which Hamburger SV emerged in its current form, are taken into account . In addition, the performance in the DFB Cup and the European Cup and the most successful goalscorer are named. Player names in bold indicate that the player became the top scorer for that season.

Hamburger SV has been German champions six times, DFB Cup winners three times and league cup winners twice . At the international level the HSV won the 1977 UEFA Cup Winners 'Cup and the 1983 European Champion Clubs' Cup . Until May 12, 2018, HSV was the only club in Germany that had always played in the highest German division since 1919, and also the only founding member of the Bundesliga to be represented in this league until 2018, which gave the club the nickname “Bundesliga -Dino ”.
