history
The noble family of the same name is better known than the town of Ahlefeld . This played a major role in the history of Schleswig-Holstein. Their relatives owned numerous estates, especially in the Duchy of Schleswig , and during the time of the entire state under the Danish monarchy came to the highest state offices. The Friedrichshof estate, which was the ancestral home of the Ahlefeld family, was demolished in 1953 after a fire.
Bistensee was first mentioned in 1142 and appears in the Gottorp official register in 1542. The place name is probably derived from the word rush.
On March 1, 2008 , the previously independent municipalities Ahlefeld and Bistensee merged to form the municipality of Ahlefeld-Bistensee.
