Selçuk Yula (born November 8, 1959 in Ankara , † August 6, 2013 in Istanbul ) was a Turkish football player and football expert.

Although he was also active for arch-rival Galatasaray Istanbul , he is strongly associated with this club through his work for Fenerbahçe Istanbul . On fan and club pages he is described as one of the most important players in club history. In the Turkish first division seasons 1981/82 and 1982/83 Yula was the top scorer in the Süper Lig .

Player career

Yula started his career in his hometown Ankara with the second division team Ankara Şekerspor . At the age of 19, his transfer to Fenerbahçe Istanbul was a milestone in his career, he was twice top scorer. 1982 with 16 goals and 1983 with 19 goals; Yula also won two championships with Fenerbahçe. In March 1984 he collided with his teammate İsmail Demiriz in the national team camp and broke his leg. Due to this injury, he was out until September 1984.

Yula played in the Bundesliga for the 1986/87 season for Blau-Weiß 90 Berlin . He left this club after just one season, returned to Turkey and played for Sarıyer SK . With Sarıyer SK he established himself in the upper third of the table in the Süper Lig during his season . For the 1991/92 season he then moved to Galatasaray Istanbul and played here for one season. His career for Fenerbahce ended it with a home game against Erzurumspor .

National team

Selçuk Yula played 22 times in the Turkish national soccer team , including three times as team captain.

Football expert

After his club career, Yula worked as a football expert. In this position he wrote for the daily sports newspaper Fotomaç and acted as an expert for the club's own television station Fenerbahçe TV .

death

On the night of August 6, 2013, Yula suffered a heart attack . Although he was still admitted to a hospital, he died a little later. His funeral one day later took place with great participation, in addition to personalities from his former Fenerbahçe association, many celebrities also took part. After the midday prayer in Istanbul's Şakirin Camii Mosque , Yula was buried in the Karacaahmet cemetery .
