The 25th echo award ceremony of the German Phono Academy took place on April 7, 2016 at Messe Berlin . The gala was moderated for the fourth time by Barbara Schöneberger and broadcast on the television station Das Erste . The echo was awarded in 31 categories. The musician David Bowie , who died on January 10, 2016, was inducted into the ECHO Hall of Fame, a category for deceased musicians, as the sixth artist. Other deceased artists were also remembered, including Roger Cicero , to whom Xavier Naidoo dedicated his song Frei . One of the favorites in the run-up to the award ceremony was Sido , who was nominated in four categories, but ultimately couldn't prevail in any. Helene Fischer won in the categories album of the year , crossover , music DVD / Blu-ray national as well as the national live act award . Overall, Helene Fischer leads the all-time Echo best list with her 16th Echo in front of the Kastelruther Spatzen , who can claim 13 awards. Alex Christensen also won the producer award for the Fischer album Christmas . Newcomer Joris received three awards.
