- Laschkar Gah / Afghanistan : In an attack by around 20 radical Islamic Taliban on the headquarters of the 215th Army Corps of the Afghan National Army (ANA) in Camp Shorabak (formerly Camp Bastion) in Helmand province , at least 25 soldiers and nine Taliban fighters, including three Suicide bomber killed. The headquarters also serves the U.S. Forces-led Task Force Southwest as part of Operation Resolute Support (RSM).

- Bern / Switzerland : The Swiss National Bank has presented the 1000-franc banknote from the 9th series of Swiss banknotes.
- Brussels / Belgium : The European Commission has imposed fines totaling 368,277,000 euros on the Swedish company for automotive safety systems , Autoliv , and the US company ZF TRW , which was acquired by the German ZF Friedrichshafen , for a violation of EU antitrust regulations . The Japanese company Takata was fined for having acted as a key witness to inform the Commission of the cartel. The product markets affected were the markets for seat belts , air cushions ( airbags ) and timing wheels for supplying the automobile manufacturers BMW and Volkswagen .
- Los Angeles / United States : The Japanese architect Arata Isozaki is awarded this year's Pritzker Prize .
- Munich / Germany : National coach Joachim Löw announces that Mats Hummels , Thomas Müller and Jérôme Boateng will no longer be part of the national soccer team .
- Palikir / Micronesia : Congress elections of the Federated States of Micronesia , in which ten representatives of the constituencies and four senators are elected.
- Stockholm / Sweden : The Nobel Foundation officially confirms that two Nobel Prize for Literature will be awarded in autumn 2019 , one of them retrospectively for 2018. The award was canceled due to an internal crisis in the Swedish Academy .

- Alexandria , United States : Political advisor Paul Manafort is sentenced to 47 months in prison by a United States District Court for tax evasion and bank fraud. A ruling on further indictments in the US District Court in Washington is awaited for obstruction of justice, lobbying for former Ukrainian politicians and conspiracy against the United States.
- Helsinki / Finland , Tallinn / Estonia : The Chinese investment company Touchstone Capital Partners and the tunneling company FinEst Bay Area Development, under the direction of Peter Vesterbacka, are ready for around 15 billion euros as part of the Belt and Road infrastructure initiative (New Silk Road) to invest in the construction project of a tunnel under the Gulf of Finland between Tallinn and Helsinki as part of Rail Baltica . In the future planned joint metropolitan region called Talsinki , economic development is to be supported. Geological preliminary planning is currently still taking place.
- Limburg an der Lahn / Germany : The juvenile criminal chamber of the regional court sentenced four suspects to several years imprisonment, among other things for running the child pornography website Elysium .
- Lyon / France : The Archbishop of Lyon , Philippe Barbarin , has been sentenced to a suspended sentence by the criminal court (tribunal correctionnel) in Lyon for covering up allegations of sexual abuse .
- Östersund / Sweden : Opening of the 50th Biathlon World Championships , which will take place until March 17th.

- Berlin / Germany : The Federal Foreign Office is tightening travel and security information for Turkey against the background of increasing restrictions on freedom of expression and freedom of the press in Turkey .
- Berlin / Germany : The leader of the Left faction , Sahra Wagenknecht , has to withdraw from the top of her co-founded in September 2018 political rally movement getting announced.
- Chemnitz / Germany : At the home game of the regional soccer division Chemnitzer FC against VSG Altglienicke , there is a mourning action on the occasion of a recently deceased hooligan active in the right-wing scene. As a result, there are several resignations and dismissals in the association, which files a criminal complaint itself.
- Villavicencio / Colombia : When a Douglas DC-3 plane crashes , all 14 occupants are killed.
