Oldenswort ( Danish Oldensvort ) in the Schleswig-Holstein district of North Friesland is a municipality of the Eiderstedt office . Altendeich, Hemmerdeich, Süderdeich, Osterende and Hochbrücksiel are in the municipality.

Geographical location

The municipality of Oldenswort stretches northwest of the last Eider arc before its estuary in Tönning in the landscape field of Eiderstedter march .

geology

The municipality is largely part of the landscape of the Eiderstedter Marsch . This area was surrounded by a 1.5 meter high summer dike back in the 12th century. More recent adjoining dikes in the municipality are the Süderfriedrichskoog, which was dyed in 1613, and the Harbleker Koog from 1612, respectively the Tetenskoog, which was separated from the latter by a summer dike between 1766 and 1805.

history

The name Oldenswort is possibly derived from the name Olde Warft (in High German: old Warft ). A pronounced settlement activity did not begin until around the year 1000. Oldenswort had been known for a long time and was given the spot justice early on, which the place lost again in 1800. The place was first mentioned in 1205. In 1252 King Abel of Denmark landed at the chapel to wage war against the Eiderstedter who refused to pay homage to him. The war ended with a catastrophe for King Abel, as Helmold von Bosau describes in his chronicle: "He fell with a large part of his army".

Oldenswort suffered severe damage in the Second Marcellus Flood . When the Dithmarscher invaded in 1415 and 1416 , the place was devastated and burned down. When the imperial ravages ravaged the country during the Thirty Years War , Oldenswort was also affected. In the course of the Northern Wars , the town of Tönning was besieged in 1713, which also had negative consequences for the place. In the same year there was a convention between Peter the Great and Frederick IV of Denmark and Norway . Much of the patch burned down in 1784 but was soon rebuilt. Later, many residents lost their belongings due to the Danish bankruptcy in 1815, as a result of which the municipality area shrank by almost half.

In the local elections on May 6, 2018, the SPD received 45.3% of the votes cast and six seats (+1), the CDU won four seats (± 0) with 31.2%. The WVO accounted for 23.5% and thus three seats (−1). The turnout was 64.3 percent.

Oldenswort Church

St. Pancras

The brick-built St. Pankratius Church in Oldenswort  goes back to a Romanesque building that was probably built in the 12th century. It has a wooden coffered ceiling. Most of the furnishings date from the 16th century. To the right of her, below the churchyard, is the Wilhelmseiche, planted in 1897 to commemorate the 100th birthday of Kaiser Wilhelm I.

Hoyerswort mansion

Eiderstedt's only mansion, Hoyerswort, is located in Oldenswort . It is a two-wing Renaissance building with a stair tower surrounded by a double moat. It was built in the 16th century by the royal Danish stallion (governor) Caspar Hoyer , from whom it takes its name. His daughter-in-law, Anna Ovena Hoyer, gathered a congregation there that the local clergy considered heretical . In 1632 she sold the mansion to Augusta of Denmark , the widow of Duke Johann Adolf . In the following years the house changed hands several times, so it belonged to the ducal chamber councilor Andreas Cramer from 1656 to 1679 . In 1713 the Danish King Friedrich IV accepted the surrender of the Swedish troops stationed in the Tönning Fortress under Magnus Stenbock in the Great Northern War , which effectively decided the war. After changing owners, the estate came into the possession of the Hamkens family in 1771 , where it remained until 2013.

In Oldenswort there has been a bronze monument by Raimund Kittl of Ferdinand Tönnies , the founder of German sociology  , who was born there - on Haubarg De Riep , which has since disappeared .

Dutch mill Catharina (2015)

Mill Catharina

The listed Dutch windmill was built in 1786 as an Erdholländer mill. In 1886, the structure was pulled up on pulleys to build a masonry base underneath. The Catharine mill is therefore a mountain Dutch mill. The grinding operation was only stopped in the 1970s. After the restoration it will be used as a holiday home. During the night of October 29, 2017, the roof and wings were torn off by the Herwart storm . In June 2018, the restored canopy with the wings was put back on.

traffic

The municipal area is crossed by motorized individual traffic from federal highway 5 north of Tönning. The communal village location , however, branches off the federal road to the west on state road 36 .

In local public transport , the municipal area is crossed by the Husum – Bad St. Peter-Ording railway line . The breakpoint in the municipality is Harblek and is located at the settlement of the same name in the outer area under building planning law . It's a need stop. The distance from the train station to the village is a good 2 kilometers. The railway line mentioned is served by regional train 64 in the Schleswig-Holstein local transport network.
