Another officer, whose identity is often asked, is Eberhard von der Betten kgl. Prussia. Major i. G. (1884-1954)
He was the eldest son of the Prussian captain Eberhard von der Betten and his wife, Countess Margarete von Schwerin . He was born in Berlin in 1884. The namesake for father and son was the Major General Eberhard von der Betten (1812–1871). In 1914, at the beginning of the First World War , the son Eberhard was 30 years old and had received training as a pilot in Döbritz near Potsdam . The powered airplanes were still built from wooden poles, tension wire and sturdy canvas . His reconnaissance plane was a "dove" . These aircraft were flown at altitudes over 1000 meters in order not to be shot down at the front. In addition to observation balloons, these light canvas planes were used for reconnaissance .
The planes were unarmed because they were only intended for observation. However, they were able to carry light 2 kg bombs and propaganda material and these bombs were thrown from the cockpit by hand. On September 28, 1914, Eberhard von derdecke flew over Paris with the Etrich "Taube" and dropped several bombs. On August 13, the German pilot Ferdinand von Hiddessen had already made a surprise flight to Paris with bombs and propaganda leaflets. Three years earlier, the first air strike in history was on a Turkish-occupied oasis in Libya.
On September 28, the first bomb fell on the right bank of the Seine in front of the palace in which the Prince of Monaco used to stay when he visited Paris. Another bomb carried a flag with the name of the aviator: "from the ceiling". A second pigeon dropped bombs that didn't hit. This second pigeon was pursued unsuccessfully by French aircraft. A total of 2 airship attacks and 44 air raids were documented against Paris; According to French information, 278 people were killed and 636 injured. See: Bomb operations of the air forces of the German Empire. Later Eberhard von derillen became the commander of a field aviation department and finally a general staff officer . In 1920 he married Clare Runge in Unna . They didn't have any children. Eberhard became chamber director in Munich . He died in 1954 in Unterwössen south of the Chiemsee .
It was named after Eberhard von der Betten (1812–1871), Prussian major general and brigade commander
There was also a steel pigeon built in 1914 today, the Deutsches Technikmuseum Berlin

Confusion of persons in literature
Confusion in the books: German constitutional history since 1789 and political history of Lower Saxony 1803–1866
Minister of the Kingdom of Hanover was Friedrich von der Betten (politician, 1802) and not Adolphus Graf von der Betten (1807–1886). During the reign of King George V , Friedrich was Minister of Finance from 1851 to 1852 and Minister of Justice from 1855 to 1862. The Hanoverian constitutional conflict over the distribution of power between King and Parliament had not yet been decided in Hanover and led to many changes of minister.
Adolphus traveled in 1863 on a secret mission for the King of Hanover to the courts of Vienna to Emperor Franz Joseph , to Dresden to the King of Saxony , to Munich to King of Bavaria , after Stuttgart to King of Württemberg and after Darmstadt for Grand Duke of Hesse to the To convince the princes of the Greater German solution .
Adolphus and Friedrich have a common great-grandfather, Burchard von der Betten (1694–1776) on Oerichsheil . See 1st or Oerichsheiler lineage .
Adolphus and Friedrich are confused in two books that appeared between 1957 and 1991: German Constitutional History since 1789 by Ernst Rudolf Huber and in Political History of Lower Saxony 1803-1866 by Reinhard Oberschelp .
