Ogden R. Reid

Ogden Rogers Reid (born June 24, 1925 in New York City , † March 2, 2019 in Waccabuc, New York) was an American politician . Between 1963 and 1975 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Ogden Reid studied at Deerfield Academy between 1940 and 1943 . In 1949 he graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor of Arts . He was a fellow at Brandeis University and Bar-Ilan University in Israel . During the Second World War , he entered the US Army as a private . When he left in 1946, he held the rank of First Lieutenant . Reid was then a captain of the United States Army Reserve . He was President of the New York Herald Tribune S.A. from 1953 to 1959 . and President and Editor of the New York Herald Tribune Inc. 1959, he succeeded Edward B. Lawson US Ambassador to Israel - a post he held until 1961. He then chaired the New York State Commission for Human Rights between 1961 and 1962 . Reid was a trustee at the Hamilton Institute . He served on the Advisory Board of Columbia University's School of International Affairs . He was also Vice President of the National Institute of Social Sciences and Director of the Atlantic Council of the United States .

Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party at that time . In the 1962 congressional election for the 88th Congress , Reid was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 26th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded Edwin B. Dooley on January 4, 1963 . He was re-elected four times in a row. On March 22, 1972, he joined the Democratic Party . He ran in 1972 in the 24th constituency of New York for the 93rd Congress . After a successful election, he succeeded Mario Biaggi on January 4, 1973 . Since he on a run again in 1974 renounced, he left the after January 3, 1975 Congress of. In 1974 he ran for the nomination for governor of New York until his retirement .

Reid was from January 1975 to May 1976 environmental protection officer in New York. He lived in Purchase .
