Indevillers is a French municipality with 262 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Indevillers is located at 722 m , 14 kilometers northeast of Maîche and about 25 kilometers south-southeast of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , in a wide hollow on the ridge, which forms the French continuation of the Clos du Doubs and is surrounded by the Doubs , near the border with Switzerland .
The area of the 22.81 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The central part of the area is taken up by the wide Indevillers basin, which averages 720 m. It consists mainly of meadow and pasture land and has no surface watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karst subsoil. The hollow opens to the east to the valley of the Bief de Fuesse , a side stream of the Doubs. The Indevillers depression is flanked on the south side by the broad ridge of La Closure and Champ de la Croix (up to 910 m). This descends with steep slopes, partly criss-crossed by rock bands, to the Doubstal, whereby the river, which has formed a shallow valley low here no more than 200 meters wide, always marks the southern border.
To the north of the Indevillers basin, the terrain rises gently to the height of Les Essarts , which is the highest point in the municipality at 927 m. This is followed in the north by the plateau of Montnoiron ( 800 m ), which in turn drops with steep slopes to the northern section of the Doubs. To the east, the municipality extends over the height of Chauvilliers to the height of the Clos du Doubs ( 895 m ).
In addition to the actual village, Indevillers includes several hamlets and numerous individual farms, including:
- Chauvilliers ( 779 m , formerly Kallenberg ) on a saddle of the ridge of the Clos du Doubs, surrounded by the Doubs
- Montnoiron ( 800 m ) on a plateau almost 400 m above the Doubs river valley
Neighboring municipalities of Indevillers are Fessevillers , Les Plains-et-Grands-Essarts and Courtefontaine in the west, Vaufrey , Glère and Burnevillers in the north and the Swiss municipalities Soubey in the east and Saignelégier in the south.
history
In the Middle Ages, Indevillers was part of the county of La Roche de Saint-Hippolyte. Together with Franche-Comté, the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Chauvilliers (German formerly Kallenberg ), first mentioned in 1376, experienced a different story. It formed its own small lordship that belonged to the Kastlanei Saint-Ursanne and was therefore subject to the Principality of Basel . In 1780 Chauvilliers was ceded to France and united with Indevillers.
Attractions
The old chapel on the south side of the Mulde von Indevillers was built in the 15th century in the Gothic style and today has modern glass windows. Today's village church shows Greek-Corinthian styles and was built in 1842.

With 262 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Indevillers is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased markedly in the first half of the 20th century (708 people were still counted in 1886), only relatively minor fluctuations have been recorded since the beginning of the 1990s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Indevillers was predominantly a village characterized by agriculture (cattle breeding and dairy farming) and forestry. In addition, there are now a few local small businesses, including a sawmill. Many workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.
The village is located away from the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Trévillers to Burnevillers. Another road connection is with Courtefontaine.
