The Diocese of Lincoln ( Latin : Dioecesis Lincolnensis ) located in the USA was detached from the Diocese of Omaha on August 2, 1887 and, like this, was subject to the Archdiocese of Dubuque as a suffragan. With the elevation of Omahas to the Metropolitan Archdiocese in 1945, Lincoln transferred to this.

In 1950 there were 39,695 Catholics (7.1%) in 141 parishes with 156 diocesan priests , 21 religious priests and 222 religious sisters, the 61,732 km² diocese grew to 89,331 Catholics (16.6%) in 134 parishes with 136 diocesan priests, 9 religious priests by 2002 , 2 deacons and 131 nuns.
