Dung is a French municipality with 637 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Dung is located at 321 m , about four kilometers west of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends west of the Montbéliard basin and north of the Doubstal , in the Rupt valley, north of the ridge of Mont Bart.
The area of the 3.22 km² municipal area covers a section of the undulating landscape north of the Doube valley. The area is crossed from north to south by the Rupt , which flows through a relatively wide valley low and provides drainage to the Allan and thus to the Doubs. The valley is flanked by predominantly wooded heights: in the east by the Bois Georges (up to 400 m), in the west by the Bois de Miémont ( 403 m ) and in the northwest by the Bois de Sainans , on which the highest elevation of dung is reached at 435 m .
Neighboring municipalities of Dung are Issans and Allondans in the north, Sainte-Suzanne in the east, Bart in the south and Présentevillers and Saint-Julien-lès-Montbéliard in the west.
history
Since the Middle Ages, Dung has belonged to the domain of the Counts of Montbéliard. With the annexation of the county of Württemberg-Mömpelgard (Montbéliard) , the village finally came into French hands in 1793. Today, dung is part of the Pays de Montbéliard Agglomération municipal association .

With 637 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Dung is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been in the range between 280 and 310 people, a significant increase in population has been recorded since the beginning of the 1960s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Dung was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). The hydropower of the Rupt was used early on to operate a mill. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the Montbéliard agglomeration.
The village is located away from the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Bart to Aibre . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around eight kilometers away. Further road connections exist with Montbéliard and Présentevillers.
