Greg Murphy (politician)
Gregory Francis "Greg" Murphy (* 1963 ) is an American politician ( Republican Party ).
Life
Murphy attended Raleigh Broughton High School and Davidson College . He later studied at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received his doctorate for a doctor of medicine . Murphy was now working as a urologist .
In 2015, he was named a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives by Governor Pat McCrory to fill the vacant seat of Brian Brown , who had resigned from his seat to work for US Senator Thom Tillis . Murphy was re-elected in the next two regular elections.
In September 2019, he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in a by-election in North Carolina's third congressional district. Murphy was able to assert himself against his Democratic competitor, the former mayor of Greenville , North Carolina, Allen M. Thomas . The by-election had become necessary because the previous Congressman Walter B. Jones had died in February 2019.
Murphy is married with three children.
