For the Paris World Exhibition , which opened on April 1st, the new English landscape park Parc des, designed by city planner Jean-Charles Alphand and built by Jardinier principal von Paris Édouard François André with the support of landscape gardener and Jardinier en chef de la ville Jean-Pierre Barillet-Deschamps Buttes-Chaumont opened with grottos, cascades and greenhouses. Jean Darcel is responsible for the rock structures, Eugène Belgrand for the hydraulic engineering and the inspector general of Paris architects Gabriel Davioud for the structures. Gustave Eiffel designed the machine hall .
