The Stemweder Open Air Festival is one of the oldest free and outdoor festivals in Germany, which has been held annually since 1976 in the East Westphalian community of Stemwede in the Minden-Lübbecke district . With around 12,000 visitors in total in the Ilweder wood and on the surrounding stubble fields and meadows, the festival is the largest event of its kind in the East Westphalia-Lippe region and neighboring Lower Saxony.
organization
The organizer is the local association for youth, leisure and culture in Stemwede eV (JFK), which also runs the Life House in Wehdem . While around 50 volunteers are busy organizing the festival throughout the year, around 300 additional volunteers are still on duty at the festival itself . The festival is non-commercial and is largely funded through the sale of drinks. Should profits be generated that go beyond the cost coverage of the festival, these will flow entirely into child and youth work in Stemwede .
Venue
The Stemweder Open Air Festival has taken place every year since 1986 in the Ilweder Wäldchen (district of Haldem ) and the surrounding fields and meadows. In the early years, the festival was held in other parts of the community: 1976 and 1978–1981 at the then youth center in Oppendorf , 1982 and 1983 at Freudeneck in Westrup , 1984 and 1985 at Waldfrieden in Wehdem . The site changes were usually necessary due to rising lease costs or the growing number of visitors.
Stage program
The festival offers a varied musical program on three stages, which mostly uses the genres rock, ska, alternative and punk. On the forest stage , national bands or musicians are given space to perform in front of a large audience. International acts that have already made their breakthrough in their homeland can also be seen here. Young bands from the region around Stemwede also have the chance to present themselves at the Stemweder Open Air Festival. Since 2003 the Wiesenbühne , which was called NuStage until 2006 , has offered a platform for regional bands. Since 2012 there has also been a small, third stage: the so-called solar system . A program of singer-songwriters , poetry slamers , theater and art takes place here in the afternoon . At night, the solar system turns into a dance floor with electronic music.
