history

The battle near Altenhof on an anniversary postcard from 1898

Archaeological finds prove that the municipality was settled in the Mesolithic . From the Neolithic are burial mounds preserved.

The place was first mentioned in 1410 as Oldenhave ( old courtyard ). Altenhof arose on the field mark of a village Celmerstorp (also: Selmerstorp , Selmsdorf , Seltendorf ), which was mentioned in 1295 . The village of Celmerstorp was mentioned in 1609 and was only dissolved in the middle of the 17th century due to a plague epidemic. So Altenhof and Celmerstorp existed side by side for several generations. On April 21, 1848, near Altenhof and Sandkrug's beach, the battle between the Royal Danish Infantry and troops of the vd Tann's Freicorps took place near Altenhof , which is still remembered today by a memorial stone in the Schmeerhörn district (then: beach guard ). After the Second World War, the Altenhofer manor house was the residence of the British Regional Commissioner (from 1946) and Land Commissioner (from 1949) of Schleswig-Holstein; the office was in the so-called Somerset House in Kiel.

Aschau, the settlement on the Eschen-Au (today Kronsbek), was first mentioned in a document in 1506. It existed as a manor from 1554 to 1931.

politics

Community representation

Of the nine seats in the municipal council, the KWA electoral community had six seats after the 2008 local elections and the SPD three.

Since the municipal elections in 2013, five of the nine available seats in the municipal council have gone to the Altenhof Municipal Electoral Association (KWA) and four to the Altenhof Citizens' Association (ABV). In the 2018 local elections, the KWA received five seats and the ABV four. In the constituent meeting, two representatives of the KWA announced their withdrawal from the electoral community. The proportion of votes changed to four ABV, three KWA and two non-attached.

Siegfried Brien from ABV replaced Andreas Moll from KWA as mayor in 2018.

coat of arms

Blazon : “Divided diagonally to the left by silver and red in a tin cut. Above and below an inclined ash leaf in confused colors, the right one overturned. "

The content of the coat of arms is based on historical and linguistic aspects and combines - especially in the form of the figures used - references to both the Altenhof district and the Aschau district. The Altenhof estate has been owned by the noble von Reventlow family for centuries, today the von Bethmann-Hollweg family through marriage. The colors red and white as well as the (inclined) pinnacle bar are taken from the Reventlow family coat of arms. The first word syllable in the place name Aschau means "ash" (= ash). As a form of expression of a “speaking” or “speaking” coat of arms, the coat of arms contains an ash leaf each. The community consists of two (main) locations, each represented by a sheet.

Sponsorship

Since 1990 there has been a close sponsorship of Altenhof am Werbellinsee, today part of the community of Schorfheide in Brandenburg.
