Town hall of the municipality of La Voivre

La Voivre is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

La Voivre is located at an altitude of 352 m above sea level, twelve kilometers east of Luxeuil-les-Bains and about 37 kilometers northeast of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the north-eastern part of the department, in the south-western foothills of the Vosges , in the broad valley of the Breuchin .

The area of the 11.87 km² municipal area comprises a section of the plateau landscape on the western edge of the Vosges, which is criss-crossed by valleys. From east to west, the area is crossed by the alluvial lowland of the Breuchin, which provides drainage to the Lanterne . The floodplain, through which the river winds numerous windings, lies at an average of 350 m and has a maximum width of two kilometers. It is used for agriculture.

The Breuchin Valley is flanked in the north by the wooded steep slope of the Côte de Breuche , which leads over to the adjacent high plateau. At 521 m, the highest point of La Voivre is reached on the Faucogney le Bois . To the south, the community area extends to the height of the Mille Étangs plateau . The landscape is divided into valleys and knolls. It shows a loose structure of pastureland and forest, heathland and moors. In the basin there are numerous small lakes, which are predominantly of natural origin and formed during the Ice Age by glacier grinding. The largest lakes are Étang de Plate-Pierre , Étang Mama and Étang des Grands-Prés . Some ponds were created or dammed higher by the monks for fish farming since the 11th century. From a geological and tectonic point of view, the plateau is composed partly of sandy-marl-like layers of the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ) and partly of crystalline bedrock. Glacial deposits from the Pleistocene can be found in valleys and on the plateaus .

In addition to the actual village, La Voivre includes several hamlet settlements and farms:

  • Breuche (360 m) on the northern edge of the Breuchin valley
  • Annegray (372 m) in a valley niche south of the Breuchin
  • Les Vigenas (380 m) in a valley niche south of the Breuchin

Neighboring municipalities of La Voivre are Amont-et-Effreney in the north, Faucogney-et-la-Mer in the east, Écromagny and La Lanterne-et-les-Armonts in the south and Les Fessey and Sainte-Marie-en-Chanois in the west.

history

Columban stayed at Annegray around the year 600 and founded a small monastery here. Remains of a burial ground from the Merovingian period near Annegray were also found. The place name Voivre goes back to the Gallic word vabero (brook). In the Middle Ages, La Voivre belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . Local rule was held by the Lords of Faucogney. Part of the municipality was subordinate to the Luxeuil monastery . Together with Franche-Comté , the place finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today La Voivre is a member of the community association Communauté de communes des Mille Étangs, which comprises 16 villages .

Economy and Infrastructure
