Ardon is a French commune in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté , in the department of Jura . It belongs to the arrondissement of Lons-le-Saunier and the canton of Champagnole . The place has 115 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), they are Ardonais , resp. Called Ardonaises .

geography

Ardon is 588 m above sea level. M., about four kilometers north-northwest of the city of Champagnole (as the crow flies). The street-line village extends in the Jura , on the northern edge of the Champagnole plain on a slope sloping slightly to the south above the Angillon valley , west of Mont Rivel.

The area of ​​the municipality of 5.04 km² covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by a plateau, which on average is 600 m above sea level. M. is located and partly consists of arable and meadow land, partly of forest. The eastern and southeastern border runs along the Angillon , which drains the area to the southwest to the Ain and is slightly deepened into the plateau. To the west, the community area extends over the plateau into extensive forest areas, namely Forêt de la Faye de Montrond , Bois des Cinq-Chênes and Bois de la Combe Pachod . Here is at 637 m above sea level. M. reached the highest point of Ardon.

The hamlet of Pont de Gratteroche (581 m above sea level) on Angillon belongs to Ardon . Neighboring communities of Ardon are Le Pasquier in the north, Vannoz in the east, Champagnole in the south and Montrond in the west.

history

Ardon was first mentioned in a document in the 12th century. The place name is of Celtic origin, Aredunum means as much as before the fortress . In the Middle Ages, Ardon was part of the Montrivel lordship. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

Ardon has a small chapel. The old paper mill (Moulin de Taqueret) dates from the 17th century.

With 115 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Ardon is one of the smallest communities in the Jura department. After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been around 80 people, a slight increase in population was recorded afterwards.

Economy and Infrastructure

Ardon was a predominantly agricultural village well into the 20th century . In addition, there are now some small businesses, including a plastics processing company. In the meantime the village has turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area, mainly in Champagnole.

The village is very well developed in terms of traffic. It is close to the main road N5, which leads from Geneva via Champagnole to Dole . There are other road links with Salins-les-Bains , Saint-Germain-en-Montagne and Crotenay .
