The Ligue 1 2009/10 was the 72th season of the highest French football league. The season started on August 8, 2009 and ended on May 15, 2010 .
The defending champion was Girondins Bordeaux , trained by the 98 world champion Laurent Blanc . Newcomers were RC Lens , HSC Montpellier and US Boulogne . Grenoble Foot was the first to be relegated after the 32nd matchday - as early as no other first division club since the 1979/80 season (then Stade Brest ). The other relegated teams are UC Le Mans and US Boulogne. Champion Olympique Marseille .

Season awards
The trophies for the season's best goalkeeper and field player went to Hugo Lloris (Lyon) and Gervinho (Lille). They were followed on the podium by Stéphane Ruffier (Monaco) in front of Mickaël Landreau (Lille) in goal and Fabien Lemoine (Rennes) in front of Florent Balmont (Lille) and Kevin Gameiro (Lorient) among the field players.

For the third year in a row, Ligue 1 recorded a slight decrease in audience numbers compared to the previous season, this time from 7.999 to 7.634 million; The attendance per game fell accordingly from 21,050 to 20,089. Only seven clubs were above this average: Masters Marseille (50,044), Lyon (35,766), promoted Lens (34,196), Paris, Bordeaux, Saint-Étienne and Rennes. The lowest numbers were recorded in Auxerre, Lorient, Boulogne, Valenciennes (all just over 12,000), Le Mans (9,214), Nice (8,714) and Monaco (7,893). For Marseille against Bordeaux in August 2009, 55,920 tickets were sold, while only 5,358 stalwarts wanted to see the Monaco against Le Mans game. The league strikers were hungry for goals as they had not been since 2000/01: 916 recognized goals meant an average of 2.41 goals per game.
