The VW Sharan II and its almost identical sister model, the Seat Alhambra II, are cars of the Volkswagen automobile company . The vehicles are technically based on the VW Passat B6 and are the successor to the Sharan I / Seat Alhambra I. Both are produced in the Autoeuropa plant in Palmela, Portugal .
The world premiere took place at the Geneva Motor Show 2010. The market launch took place on September 3, 2010 (Sharan) and October 2, 2010 (Alhambra); The list sales price in Germany starts at 32,800 euros for the Sharan and at 30,435 euros for the Alhambra (accessed on September 25, 2017).
design
The model was designed by Walter Maria de Silva and Klaus Bischoff and is very similar to the Touran GP2 . Style elements of the Touareg can also be seen both inside and outside . In contrast to its predecessor, the Sharan II has sliding doors that can be operated manually or electrically for a surcharge.
Facelift
For the 2011 model year, the optional equipment was expanded to include the park assist , adaptive chassis control and keyless start system options .
For the 2012 model year, the Sharan got an additional storage compartment in the roof console. The instrument cluster has been expanded to include a display for the electronic parking brake. In addition, the radio and navigation systems were visually and technically revised. The special equipment was supplemented by all-wheel drive, lane departure warning , traffic sign recognition and 18 "alloy wheels. For the 2012 model year, the license plate lighting was also switched to LED .
For the 2013 model year, the front seats were equipped with new, safety-optimized headrests. In addition, the luggage compartment lid got ambient lighting. Since then, DAB + reception and an electric closing aid for the sliding doors have also been optionally available.
For the 2016 model year, the Sharan and Alhambra were mainly technically revised. The engines now all meet the Euro 6 standard and consume up to 15% less with partially increased engine power. A multi-collision brake is part of the standard equipment, an area monitoring system with city emergency braking function, a blind spot and a lane change assistant as well as an automatic distance control are optionally available. The radio and navigation devices correspond to the current generation from the Golf VII and optionally enable smartphone integration with CarPlay , Android Auto or MirrorLink . The revised models are visually recognizable on the inside by the new decors and steering wheels and on the outside by the new LED taillights. In the Alhambra, the grille slats are now arranged horizontally instead of vertically.
In the 2017 model year, AM reception was discontinued in radios and navigation systems. The refrigerant in the air conditioning system was changed from R134a to R1234yf and the automatic air conditioning system was equipped with an allergen filter. The Sharan is only available as a 5- or 7-seater, the 6-seater option has been omitted.
technology
A start-stop system and braking energy recovery help to optimize consumption . Another technical detail is an adaptive chassis control, called Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) at Volkswagen . The power is transmitted via a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed dual clutch transmission . An all-wheel drive version has been available since 2011.

Furnishing
Sharan II and Alhambra II are offered as five-seater (2: 3) and optionally as seven-seater (2: 3: 2). In contrast to the predecessor, the seats in the two back rows cannot be expanded or retrofitted, but they can simply be lowered. Up to the 2016 model year, the Sharan II was also optionally available as a six-seater (2: 2: 2). Standard equipment includes a. seven airbags , ESP , a hill start assist, electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors, an electric parking brake , electric windows, air conditioning and a CD radio. For a surcharge are u. a. Three-zone automatic air conditioning, navigation system, driver assistance systems or a panoramic sliding roof are available.
Equipment lines
Sharan
The Sharan comes in the Trendline , Comfortline and Highline equipment lines . The Trendline basic equipment is visually recognizable by the lack of chrome surrounds on the side windows and the air inlet grille. The Comfortline also has 16 "alloy wheels, roof rails, sport comfort seats, leather steering wheel and parking sensors, the Highline has 17" alloy wheels, roof rails, heated sport comfort seats in Alcantara , multifunction leather steering wheel , parking sensors and fog lights.
The special models of the VW Sharan are each based on the Comfortline equipment. The standard equipment usually includes 17 "alloy wheels, automatic air conditioning, heated front seats, multifunction steering wheel and fog lights as well as mostly sliding doors and / or luggage compartment flaps with electrical opening and closing. They are offered for one calendar year and were named Style (2011), Match ( 2012), Life (2013), Cup (2014), Beach and Ocean (both 2015), Allstar (2016) SOUND (2017), JOIN (2018), IQ Drive (2019) and United (2020).
Alhambra
With the Alhambra, the equipment lines are called Reference and Style . The third equipment line was Style Plus in the 2016 model year and FR-Line in the 2017 model year . While many options can be selected individually with the Sharan, with the Alhambra these are often only available in packages, but cheaper than with the Sharan. The Style has 16 "alloy wheels, roof rails, multifunction leather steering wheel, parking sensors and fog lights as standard.
Several special models of the Alhambra are offered every year.
Trunk
Compared to its predecessor of the same name, the vehicle has a platform that is 22 centimeters longer. As a result, the trunk without a third row of seats holds 809 to 2430 liters. With the third row of seats, the volume is 267 to 2297 liters.
The trunk of the 5-seater version does not form a flat, continuous surface even after the second row of seats has been folded down. There are flat storage spaces under the loading area, which affects the permissible load distribution.
safety
In the Euro NCAP crash test in November 2010, the VW Sharan received 34 points for occupant protection, 36 points for child protection and 16 points for pedestrian protection.
environment
According to Deutsche Umwelthilfe e. V. (DUH), after the software update, the VW Sharan II is the only remeasured vehicle in the VW fleet that complies with the limit value of the Euro 5 standard for test bench measurements in real driving.
