The Austrian Football Championship 2001/02 was organized by the Austrian Football League Association. The single-track First Division served as a substructure for the maximum Bundesliga . The third level represented the regional leagues east (Vienna, Lower Austria, Burgenland), middle (Upper Austria, Styria, Carinthia) and west (Salzburg, Tyrol, Vorarlberg).
First performance level - Bundesliga
mode
The 2001/02 championship was largely dominated by FC Tirol. FC Tirol Innsbruck was able to break away from the competition during the first half of the spring round and won with a ten-point lead over SK Sturm Graz. With this, under manager Robert Hochstaffl, they were able to celebrate their third title win as Austrian soccer champions in a row. So far only Rapid, Austria and Vienna had succeeded. The price for the success was expensive, however: the club went bankrupt and was finally liquidated. Robert Hochstaffl was sentenced to four years in prison in 2007. Since there was no successor club to FC Tirol, the international starting positions were shifted backwards and the relegation position was completely eliminated. GAK and Sturm started in the 2003 Champions League . Since the two Graz clubs failed there in the third qualifying round, they continued to play in the 2003 UEFA Cup , together with Carinthia and Vienna Austria. The greatest success of the four was shined by storm, they got to the third round.

Second performance level - first division
General
In the 2001/02 season of the First Division, Pasching was able to successfully prevail, but there was especially excitement about SV Braunau. During the winter break, he stopped playing and had to file for bankruptcy. The association, which had existed since 1919, was subsequently dissolved. All Braunauer games were rated 0: 3 for the opponent. FC Lustenau 07 was able to take part in the relegation, even though it remained last, moved up to ninth place and was allowed to fight in the relegation games to remain in the second stage. However, since there was no relegation due to the FC Tirol bankruptcy, this became obsolete.
