Gigliola Cinquetti
Gigliola Cinquetti ( [dʒiˈʎːɔla tʃiŋˈkwetːi] ; born December 20, 1947 in Verona ) is an Italian singer. She took part in the Sanremo Festival twelve times , winning twice, nine times in the Canzonissima competition , which she won once, three times in Un disco per l'estate and twice in the Eurovision Song Contest , which she won in 1964 as the first Italian participant.
Career
Cinquetti began her career at the age of 15 when she entered and won two songs (including Le strade di notte by Giorgio Gaber ) at the Castrocaro Music Festival. Her first single was Penso alle cose perdute at the end of 1963 . With the song Non ho l'età (per amarti) by Mario Panzeri, Nisa and Gene Colonnello, Cinquetti then presented himself at the Sanremo Festival in 1964 (together with Patricia Carli ) and won the competition. Shortly afterwards she was able to win the Eurovision Song Contest with the song . This was followed by other singles such as Il primo bacio che darò or Caro come te and in 1965 the singer presented Ho bisogno di vederti in Sanremo . She also sang songs by Georges Brassens and Enzo Jannacci . Her singles in German were also very successful. The German version of Non ho l'età bears the misleading Italian title Luna nel blu . Between 1964 and 1966, her recordings appeared in Germany on the Italia label .
In about the same period, she starred in a handful of music-centric feature films in which the black-haired, little singer played mostly tender, morally impeccable and family-focused fiancés. Some television works are also in Cinquetti's catalog raisonné.
She was able to repeat her victory in Sanremo in 1966 with Dio, come ti amo (together with Domenico Modugno ). The following year, their single La rosa nera was successful. After Cinquetti's contribution Sera performed poorly after the Sanremo Festival in 1968 , her songwriters switched to more catchy, lower-level songs, including La pioggia ( Sanremo 1969 ) or Il treno dell'amore . But the singer wanted to break away from her clichéd role and worked with Maurice Chevalier for a French album as early as 1969 ; In 1971 and 1972 she released two albums, Cantando con gli amici and Su e giù per le montagne , which made northern Italian folk music known in the south of the country; Stasera ballo liscio from 1973 contained light dance music.
With Alle porte del sole , Cinquetti won the Canzonissima competition in 1973 , and was successful a second time at European level in 1974 when she took second place behind ABBA with Sì (“Yes”) in the Eurovision Song Contest . The broadcast of Cinquetti's performance was censored in Italy, however, in order not to influence the ongoing referendum on the introduction of divorce. The song was then also successful in the UK under the title Go (Before You Break My Heart) .
With the album Pensieri di donna in 1978 Cinquetti presented herself as a mature woman with feminist traits who had finally outgrown her role , but could not achieve any success. She then switched her activities to television for a few years until she returned to the Sanremo Festival in 1985 and again in 1989 . In 1991 she moderated the Eurovision Song Contest in Rome with Toto Cutugno , and in 1995 she was among the participants of the Sanremo Festival for the last time. After disappointing sales, she retired to television.
In 2014 she published the autobiographical book In viaggio con lei . The following year, a new album was released on December 20th for the singer's birthday.
