Jazz Festival Vienna

The Vienna Jazz Festival has been a summer jazz festival that has been held in Vienna every summer since 1991 .

Musical orientation and venues

The main focus of the festival's program is on mostly international jazz stars, but also on soul , blues , pop and rock . Newcomers of the genre and local up-and-coming artists can also be seen.

The central venues are the Vienna State Opera and the Wiener Stadthalle for large-scale concerts. Further performances will take place in the jazz clubs Porgy & Bess and Jazzland , on the stages of WUK , Reigen and Summerstage as well as in the arcade courtyard of the Vienna City Hall and on the Rathausplatz in front of it. The MuseumsQuartier , the Wiener Konzerthaus and the Austria Center Vienna have also been used . The annual district heating Open Air on the premises of the Spittelau waste incineration plant is also part of the festival. The concerts on the Summerstage and the Rathausplatz can be attended with free admission. The festival is supported by the City of Vienna. In 2020 the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

The founder and organizer is Fritz Thom , who also heads the International Jazz Festivals Organization , in close collaboration with Heinz Krassnitzer (1953–2013).
