List of marshalling yards

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

List of important marshalling yards in geographical order.

Important marshalling yards with the formation of long-distance freight trains or with large transport volumes or with very extensive track systems with low transport volumes, which also usually have at least one drainage mountain , are listed.

While the names of the railway complexes and cities , as far as in general use, in the German exonym are given, which are actual marshalling yards with the official endonymen proper names in the local language or in languages with non-Latin alphabets in scientific transliteration instead of German inscription (transcription) called so In any case (also for the non-German speaking readership) a return to the original language for the purpose of finding in maps or on site is possible. In railway complexes with several marshalling yards as well as at marshalling yards from whose names the corresponding railway complex or node cannot be identified and in shunting yards whose foreign-language proper name differs from the German-language name of the railway complex, the (German-language) name of the railway complex is prefixed in italics . As far as known, the number of direction tracks is given in brackets, with double numbers: (xx + xx) indicating the number for each individual shunting system in two-sided shunting yards.

Not listed are smaller marshalling yards with mostly local traffic and / or only a few tracks, partially disused marshalling yards with little traffic or use only for parking wagons , marshalling yards of connecting railways of industrial plants and ports as well as completely disused marshalling yards.

No guarantee can be given for the completeness and topicality , since complete and partial closures of marshalling yards are rarely reported officially or in the specialist literature, but - also with regard to secrecy in many countries for military reasons - these are often only determined after completion on site can be.

In Germany, Deutsche Bahn will in future operate the nine marshalling yards, marked below in bold , with supraregional importance. The marshalling systems that are also listed and categorized as junction stations primarily take on regional tasks, but occasionally also form long-distance trains. After completion of the marshalling yard in Halle (Saale) , the facilities in Engelsdorf (Sa.) and Dresden-Friedrichstadt , which are still operated as marshalling yards, will lose their tasks and thus their importance. Such a loss of importance is still reflected in the names of individual plants: Kassel Rbf operates almost exclusively locally.

  • Paris: Le Bourget (48)
  • Metz : Woippy - Triage (48; largest marshalling yard in France)
