- January 21 : Premiere of the opera Jenufa by Leoš Janáček in Brno
- January 22nd : World premiere of the opera Nal and Damajanti (orig .: Nal 'i Damajanti) by Anton Stepanowitsch Arenski in the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow
- February 17th : The original two-act version of the opera Madama Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini, based on the story Madame Chrysanthème by Pierre Loti , is premiered at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. The libretto is by Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica . The first female singer in the title role is the soprano Rosina Storchio , who is admired by Puccini . On May 28 , the premiere will take place a three-act amended.
