World premieres
ballet
- May 12 : The dance play A fából faragott királyfi ( The Wood-Carved Prince ) by the Hungarian composer Béla Bartók based on a libretto by József Újfalussy based on Béla Balázs has its world premiere in Budapest. The work does not meet with much approval from conservative critics, but is received with enthusiasm by the audience, which means that Bartók's opera Duke Bluebeard's Castle , which has been repeatedly rejected as unplayable, is performed in the following year.

- January 30th : The one-act opera A Florentine Tragedy by Alexander von Zemlinsky has its world premiere at the Hoftheater in Stuttgart . The text is based on the poem A Florentine Tragedy by Oscar Wilde in the German translation by Max Meyerfeld.
- February 23 : The world premiere of César Cui's opera Mlada takes place at the Michailovskij teatr in Saint Petersburg, but the work, written in 1872, arouses no interest.
- February 26th : The Original Dixieland Jass Band recorded the “Livery Stable Blues” and the “Dixie Jass Band One Step”.
- April 30th : World premiere of Pietro Mascagni's opera Lodoletta in Rome.
- May 11th : the opera Turandot. A Chinese fable by Ferruccio Busoni based on Carlo Gozzi will be premiered together with Capriccio Arlecchino or Die Fenster at the Stadttheater Zürich .
- June 12 : Hans Pfitzner's musical legend Palestrina is premiered at the Prinzregententheater in Munich under the direction of Bruno Walter with Karl Erb in the title role with an extraordinary success.
- December 11th : Hans Pfitzner's work Das Christ-Elflein is premiered in its second version, reworked into a play opera , at the Dresden Court Opera under the direction of Fritz Reiner and with Grete Merrem-Nikisch in the title role. The original seal comes from Ilse von Stach . In contrast to Pfitzner's first version, the second version was a success.

- February 21 : The world premiere of the operetta The Great Comteess by Walter Kollo takes place at the Berlin Theater in Berlin.
- August 25 : The world premiere of the operetta Schwarzwaldmädel by Leon Jessel takes place in Berlin. The libretto is by August Neidhart .
- September 21 : The operetta Die Faschingsfee by Emmerich Kálmán is premiered at the Johann Strauss Theater in Vienna.
- October 6th : The operetta Drei alten Schachteln by Walter Kollo with the libretto by Herman Haller is premiered at the Theater am Nollendorfplatz in Berlin . The lyrics are from Rideamus alias Fritz Oliven .
- December 28th : The operetta Bruder Leichtsinn by Leo Ascher is premiered at the Wiener Bürgertheater . In the same year Ascher also published the operetta Egon und seine Frauen .
- The temporary husband , an operetta by Edmund Eysler , is premiered.
