March 10 : The opera Der Stier by Olivera by Eugen d'Albert is premiered in Leipzig.
March 23 : The opera Shanewis or The Robin Woman by Charles Wakefield Cadman premieres at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
April 25 : The opera Die Gezeichen by Franz Schreker based on the play Hidalla or Being and Having by Frank Wedekind has its world premiere at the Frankfurt Opera .
June 5th : The opera Theophano by Paul Graener is premiered at the Hoftheater in Munich.
December 14 : Il triptych ( The Triptych ), an opera cycle by Giacomo Puccini , consisting of the three strongly contrasting one-act plays Il tabarro (The Mantle), Suor Angelica (Sister Angelica) and Gianni Schicchi , is performed at the Metropolitan Opera premiered in New York and well received by the audience. The libretto for Il tabarro is by Giuseppe Adami , the librettist for the other two pieces is Giovacchino Forzano . Iltrittico is the result of Puccini's efforts to perform a tragic (Il tabarro) , a lyrical (Suor Angelica) and a cheerful piece (Gianni Schicchi) in one evening. The best known aria from the last piece is O mio babbino caro .

December 19 : The opera Nepřemožení ( The Unconquered ) by Josef Bohuslav Foerster has its world premiere at the National Theater in Prague .

September 28 or 29 : The piece Histoire du soldat by Igor Stravinsky is premiered at the Théâtre Municipal de Lausanne under the direction of Ernest Ansermet . The text is by Charles-Ferdinand Ramuz .

operetta

February 1st : The operetta A Pacsirta by Franz Lehár has its world premiere at the Royal Opera in Budapest. The libretto is by Alfred Maria Willner and Heinz Reichert and is based on the play Dorf und Stadt by Charlotte Birch-Pfeiffer . The first performance in German takes place on March 27th under the name Wo die Lerche singt at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna.
February 9 : The world premiere of the operetta Blitzblaues Blut by Walter Kollo takes place at the Berlin Theater in Berlin.
June 28th : The operetta A Modern Girl by Leon Jessel is premiered at the Volkstheater in Munich.
September 6th : The world premiere of the operetta Stars That Shine Again by Walter Kollo takes place at the Berlin Theater in Berlin.

jazz

August 16 : Wilbur Sweatman records the jazz tracks "Rock-a-bye Your Baby with a Dixie Melody" and "Those Draftin 'Blues" for Columbia Records in New York .
