history

Saint-Pierre-des-Ifs was first mentioned in a document under the name of Saint Petrus de Aquosius in the 14th century.

The hamlet of Epinay was the seat of a Fief de Haubert , about ' fiefdom of the ring armor '. This form of fiefdom was common in feudalism only in Normandy and Brittany . The fiefdom, which included a manor house and a chapel named Saint Nicolas, was mentioned in a document as early as 1198. The owner of this type of fiefdom automatically became a knight when he inherited the fiefdom and was 21 years old and had to serve in his master's rural army. The ring armor was the symbol of chivalry in this context. When these fiefs were inherited, they could be divided into up to eight parts. Thomas de l'Epinay granted the right to elect the parish priest of the parish of Saint-Pierre-des-Ifs in 1260 to the Abbey of Le Bec .

In 1793, Saint-Pierre-des-Ifs received the status of a municipality in the course of the French Revolution (1789–1799) and in 1801 the right to local self-government due to the administrative reform under Napoleon Bonaparte .

The manor house in Epinay, built in the 18th century, must have been destroyed before 1837, as it no longer appears on the Cadastre Napoléonien created between 1807 and 1850 . The seigneurial pigeon tower was only destroyed after 1837.
