Location of the district of Mühldorf am Inn in Bavaria | |
The district of Mühldorf am Inn (officially: District of Mühldorf a.Inn ) is a district in the east of the administrative district of Upper Bavaria in Bavaria .
geography
location
The landscape of the district is characterized by three spaces that differ quite clearly. The tertiary Isar hill country extends north of the Inn / Isen line and towers over the valley floors of the Inn and Isen by 100 to 150 m . The wide basin of the lower Inn Valley as well as the low terrace fields and the gravel plains between Isen and Inn adjoin this hill country in the south and south-east. This lowland landscape extends from Ampfing to the district border. South of the Isen and west of Ampfing, but also south of Kraiburg and Mühldorf, the hilly landscape of the Ice Age moraines of the Alpine foothills rises.
Neighboring areas
The district borders clockwise in the north, starting with the districts of Landshut , Rottal-Inn , Altötting , Traunstein , Rosenheim , Ebersberg and Erding .
history
Regional courts
In 1802 the city of Mühldorf, which had belonged to the Salzburg monastery as an enclave since 798, was incorporated into Bavaria on the basis of the Parisian mediation act. In 1803 the district court of Mühldorf was established, which from 1810 belonged to the Isar district , which was renamed Upper Bavaria in 1838 . In the same year the district court Neumarkt an der Rott (since April 1, 1934 Neumarkt-Sankt Veit) was established.
District Office
The Mühldorf District Office was formed in 1862 through the merger of the Mühldorf and Neumarkt an der Rott regional courts .
On the occasion of the reform of the layout of the Bavarian district offices, the district office of Mühldorf am Inn received municipalities from the district office of Wasserburg am Inn on January 1, 1880.
district
On January 1, 1939, the designation district was introduced as everywhere else in the German Reich . This is how the district office became the district of Mühldorf am Inn.
On October 1, 1970, the municipality of Mörmoosen in the Mühldorf am Inn district was reorganized into the Altötting district and incorporated into the Tüßling community .
On July 1, 1972, in the course of the regional reform in Bavaria, the municipalities of Gars am Inn , Haag in Upper Bavaria , Kirchdorf , Maitenbeth , Rechtmehring , Reichertsheim and Unterreit with a total area of 170.155 km² from the dissolved district of Wasserburg am Inn into the district of Mühldorf am Inn incorporated. At the same time, the Mühldorf district gave the communities of Eiting, Maisenberg and Peterskirchen to the Traunstein district and the Schwindkirchen community to the Erding district.
On May 1, 1978 the municipality of Felicenseell moved from the district of Landshut to the district of Mühldorf am Inn and was incorporated into Buchbach . The district thus reached its present size.
Population development
From 1988 to 2008, the district of Mühldorf am Inn gained almost 16,000 residents or grew by around 17%. Between 1988 and 2018 the district grew from 94,327 to 115,250 by 20,923 inhabitants or by 22.2%.

coat of arms
The official description of the county coat of arms reads: “Split from black and gold; in front a red-crowned and armored golden lion turned to the left, behind a red-armored black lion. "
The coat of arms refers to the historical development, in particular the territorial and court disputes over Mühldorf between the Duchy of Bavaria and the Prince-Archbishopric of Salzburg . The golden lion, the Bavarian symbol, is associated with the black lion, the Salzburg archbishopric.
Economy and Infrastructure
There is a very balanced structure in the district. Important industrial locations are the town of Waldkraiburg , where a large part of the industry is located, and the “ Allgäuer Alpenmilch ” Munich (until 2003 part of the Nestlé Group, since then a subsidiary of Hochwald Nahrungsmittel-Werke ) with its branch in Weiding near Mühldorf am Inn .
traffic
Streets
Three federal highways cross the district, the B 12 Munich - Mühldorf - Passau , the B 15 Regensburg - Haag - Rosenheim and the B 299 Vilsbiburg - Neumarkt-Sankt Veit - Altötting - Traunstein . 13 state roads and 52 district roads serve through traffic in the district .
The Federal Motorway 94 , which has been passable since October 1, 2019, is intended to relieve the congested B 12 in particular from Munich to Federal Motorway 3 near Passau , which crosses the district. This was previously only built on sections between Marktl via Töging and on to Heldenstein (traffic clearance December 4, 2012). The routing of the connection from Heldenstein to the already built piece at Pastetten was controversial for many years and legally contested right down to the last few instances.
Another planned new autobahn-like construction is the construction of Bundesstraße 15neu , which is to lead from Rosenheim via Landshut to Regensburg.
railroad
Deutsche Bahn AG trains run under the name Südostbayernbahn from the station in the district town, which was only opened in 1871, in eight different directions:
The Munich - Mühldorf - Simbach line of the Bavarian State Railroad was in operation from the start. It was followed in 1875 by the AG der Bayerischen Ostbahnen to Landau - Plattling via Neumarkt-St. Veit, where the state railroad connections to Passau in 1879 and to Landshut in 1883 branched off.
Up the Inn, the line to Wasserburg – Rosenheim was added in 1876 . It has been in operation again since May 1994 after a few years of temporary shutdown.
From 1908 on, trains also ran on the railway in the direction of Freilassing, from which routes to Burghausen and Traunstein subsequently branched off.
The Markt Haag in Upper Bavaria was connected to the main line Munich - Mühldorf from 1900 to 1968 by passenger trains of the Thann-Matzbach-Haag local railway .
The railway network in the district, which has been around 96 km since 1900, was reduced by only 12 km in passenger traffic in 1968/70, so that there is a relatively dense range of train stations.
A partially double-track expansion and electrification of the Munich - Mühldorf - Burghausen line are planned and noted in the federal transport infrastructure plan as an urgent requirement.
Freight traffic is mainly operated by Railion and some private railway companies.
