List of explorers

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The following list shows explorers who made regions known to the general public through their research expeditions or were the first to reach them, with which they had a lasting influence on the further course of history. The list does not claim to be complete.

For example, the trips of Christopher Columbus and Vasco da Gama made European expansion possible, even if the areas they reached were already settled. Neil Armstrong was the first person to reach the moon, but it is well known.

The list is - if available - arranged alphabetically by surname. The entries are in the form

  • [[First name, last name | Last name, first name]] (year of birth - year of death), origin, profession and information about the discovery (s)
