UEFA Champions League 2011/12
The final took place at London's Wembley Stadium .

The 2012/13 UEFA Champions League was the 21st season of the most important European competition for club teams in football under this name and the 58th overall. 76 clubs from 52 regional associations took part in the competition. Only the Liechtenstein Football Association did not provide a representative, as it does not hold its own championship.

The season began with the first leg of the first qualifying round on July 3, 2012 and ended with the final on May 25, 2013 at London's Wembley Stadium . With the decision to award the final to Wembley - two years after the last event in this stadium - UEFA honored the 150th anniversary of the Football Association as the birth of modern football. In the final , FC Bayern Munich beat league rivals Borussia Dortmund 2-1 and qualified for the 2013 UEFA Super Cup and the 2013 FIFA Club World Cup .

qualification

During the draws, the teams were divided into seeded (stronger) and unseeded (weaker) teams according to their club coefficient (given as KK) and drawn among themselves.

Losing teams competed in the 2012/13 UEFA Europa League group stage .

The first legs took place on August 21 and 22, 2012, the second legs on August 28 and 29, 2012. The following teams took part in the playoffs.

Group stage

32 teams from 17 national associations took part in the group stage. 22 teams were directly qualified, plus ten clubs (five each via the champions path and the placement path) from the qualifying rounds.

The group winners and runners-up qualified for the round of 16, the group third played in the round of 32 of the UEFA Europa League , the group fourth were eliminated from the competition. If two or more teams were tied after the group matches, the placement was determined by the following criteria:

  1. Number of points in direct comparison
  2. Goal difference in direct comparison
  3. Number of goals in direct comparison
  4. Number of away goals in direct comparison
  5. If, after applying criteria 1-4, two teams still occupy the same place in the table, criteria 1-4 are reapplied for these teams. If this does not result in a definitive placement, criteria 6–8 will be applied.
  6. Goal difference from all group matches
  7. higher number of goals scored
  8. Club coefficients

The 32 teams qualified for the group stage were divided into four lottery pots of eight teams on the basis of their club coefficient (KK), and one team from each lottery pot was drawn into one of the eight groups (A to H); Teams from the same association could not be drawn into the same group. The Chelsea was performed as defending No. 1 on the seedings, regardless of his club coefficients. The draw took place in Monaco on August 30th .

Stadiums whose name sponsor was not an advertising partner of UEFA were renamed: The Emirates Stadium in Arsenal Stadium , the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen Stadium , the Westfalenstadion (Signal Iduna Park) in BVB Stadium Dortmund , the Allianz Arena in the Munich Football Arena , the Etihad Stadium in the City of Manchester Stadium and the Türk Telekom Arena in Ali Sami Yen Spor Kompleksi .

The game was played on six days from September 18 to December 5, 2012. The uniform kick-off time was 8:45 pm CEST or CET ; the two clubs from Russia played their home games due to the time difference at 6 p.m. CEST / CET and 8 p.m. local time.

For the first time in the history of the Champions League, all German teams managed to finish their groups first. Another novelty was the defending champion's elimination in the group stage with Chelsea FC finishing third in Group E.
