Henstedt-Ulzburg is a municipality in the Segeberg district in southern Schleswig-Holstein .
geography
The community is located around 15 km north of the Hamburg city limits on the A 7 as well as several rapid and regional train lines of the AKN Eisenbahn ( HVV lines A 1, A 2 and A 3).
Henstedt-Ulzburg is located on the north construction axis in the Hamburg metropolitan region directly north of Norderstedt and south of Kaltenkirchen . The area borders, in clockwise order and beginning in the north, on Kaltenkirchen, Kisdorf , Wakendorf II , Tangstedt , Norderstedt, Quickborn , Ellerau and Alveslohe .
The rivers Alster and Pinnau have their source in the municipality. The source of the Ebach lies on the border with Ellerau , and tributaries of the Alster such as Wöddelbek and Höllenbek originate in Henstedt-Ulzburg. In addition, several streams such as the Krambek , Bredenbek and Wischbek flow through the municipality.
The Beckersberg (Henstedt) and Götzberg (Götzberg) elevations are located in Henstedt-Ulzburg, directly to the north in Kisdorferwohld is the 91 meter high Rathkrügen . The lowest point of Henstedt-Ulzburg is 22 m above sea level. NHN in the Beckershof area in the west of the community; the highest point is at 74 m above sea level. history
The three communities Henstedt, Ulzburg and Götzberg emerged as farming villages in the Middle Ages. Ulzburg was first mentioned in December 1339, Henstedt in 1343 and Götzberg in 1520. However, archaeological finds show that people have lived in the area since the Paleolithic and that the first settlements arose in the Bronze Age and the Iron Age .
The rapidly growing large community was created on January 1, 1970 from the merger of the communities Götzberg (4.47 km², in the east), Henstedt (22.32 km², in the north, with Henstedt-Rhen in the south) and Ulzburg (10.22 km²) , in the west, with Ulzburg Süd). Around another 2 km² were bought by Alveslohe in 2000 in order to build the new Beckershof district there. After considerable resistance, the municipal administration decided in 2008 not to implement the plans.

Also due to the emergence of the community from three formerly independent places, the individual districts of Henstedt-Ulzburg still show significant differences to this day:
Ulzburg
Ulzburg is the center of the community with the town hall and condensed residential and commercial use. To the north of this is the AKN Henstedt-Ulzburg station, a traffic junction. The railway line itself has been crossing this area in a 630 meter long tunnel since 2000 . A busy state road (Hamburger Straße) runs through the center. Row houses and detached houses predominate in the development, and there are also some high-rise residential buildings from the 1970s in the center of town, as well as a hotel building just over 40 meters high.
In October 2014 the new “City-Center Ulzburg” (CCU) shopping center opened between the town hall and the train station. It replaces the much smaller Ulzburg Center . Other smaller retail spaces are in the immediate vicinity of the Ulzburg town center, which is roughly bounded by the two “gatehouses” on Hamburger Strasse from the 2000s. However, the retail sector is clearly dominated by the Ulzburg business park on the northern outskirts. A large number of chain stores with a total of around 44,000 square meters of sales area have settled here in a decentralized location. This is followed by a large commercial and industrial area.
There is a kindergarten and a primary school in Ulzburg. The fire station is used by the Henstedt-Ulzburg volunteer fire brigade , which has its main building in Henstedt. The community center and the community park to the north are also located in Ulzburg. On the border to Ulzburg Süd there is a biotope in which the Pinnau rises. The Kreuzkirche on Hamburger Straße was built until 1969 and belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Henstedt-Ulzburg.
Henstedt
Henstedt, on the other hand, was able to retain its rural character more clearly. There are mostly loose buildings with single and terraced houses and very few apartment buildings. A supermarket is located at the junction of Dorfstrasse / Norderstedter Strasse, smaller shops are mainly to be found in the vicinity of the adjacent street “Neuer Weg”. The Erlöserkirche from 1880, which was built in neo-Gothic style, is located on Kisdorfer Straße. It belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Henstedt-Ulzburg. The two parish halls and the Henstedt cemetery are directly adjacent.
In the district there is the elementary and community school "Olzeborchschule" (with attached support center), on the border with Ulzburg also the Alstergymnasium (former school center, "Green School"). The local police station and the volunteer fire department Henstedt-Ulzburg are located on Maurepasstrasse.
The transport connection to Ulzburg is guaranteed by bus routes 293, 593 and night bus route 616. The "Wöddel" pond is located in the old town center of Henstedt, and the neighboring old elementary school has been converted into a kindergarten.
Ulzburg South
Ulzburg Süd (also written Ulzburg-Süd ) was largely created in recent years. To this day, there are large-scale development areas, mainly for row houses. The district does not have a clear center, retail has been concentrated in some cases at the southern end of the district along the state road that crosses Ulzburg Süd. The AKN train station of the same name is located on the outskirts of Ulzburg Süd , otherwise the place is connected to public transport via bus routes 293 and 616 to Ulzburg and Norderstedt . The plans for a new district "Beckershof" with houses for more than 5000 people west of the AKN route, which currently delimits the district, were abandoned after the local elections in 2008 due to the changed political situation. The construction of this major project was very controversial in the community. The former ruling CDU parliamentary group was in favor of the expansion, but the local election was won by the Henstedt-Ulzburg (WHU) voter community, whose main campaign topic was their no to the Beckershof project. The transformer station "Hamburg Nord, Teil Ulzburg" of the electricity network operator Tennet TSO is located between Ulzburg Süd and the Rhen . Rhen
The Rhen (formerly Henstedt-Rhen ) is the southernmost district of Henstedt-Ulzburg. It belonged to Henstedt until 1970 and was largely not built on until after the Second World War; terraced and detached houses also predominate here. However, there are also various multi-family houses and two high-rise residential buildings at Centrum Rhen . In the east and northeast of the district there are many larger single-family houses. The Paracelsus Clinic is located in the southeast . The Rhen is connected to the local public transport with the bus line 293 Ulzburg - Norderstedt Mitte ( subway connection to Hamburg), on weekends also with the night bus line 616. In addition to the Rhen elementary school, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2011, in the center of the district, the Rhen community school is located on the northern edge. On the Rhen is also the sports facility of the former upper division football club SV Henstedt-Rhen , which now plays under the name SV Henstedt-Ulzburg in the South-West Association League (6th division).
On the Rhen in the east are the nature reserves Oberalsterniederung and Henstedter Moor as well as the source of the Alster , which flows into the Elbe in Hamburg . There is also a larger moor, the Lütt Wittmoor . The St. Petrus Church is located on Norderstedter Straße, but does not belong to the Henstedt-Ulzburg parish.
Götzberg
Götzberg largely retained its original character. The district is completely separated from the rest of the community about three kilometers east of Henstedt on a hill. It is significantly less populated than the other districts. Single houses and agriculture predominate. Götzberg is known for its listed windmill, built in 1877, and for a larger junk shop. The Götzberg fire station is equipped with vehicles and is used by the Henstedt-Ulzburg volunteer fire department.
In the north, on the border with Kisdorf, part of the FFH area Landesforst Gehege Endern ( Endern for short ), a large forest, belongs to Götzberg.

Children's and youth parliament
The municipality of Henstedt-Ulzburg has a children and youth parliament, which has the task of examining all municipal political issues and decisions from the perspective of the youth and, if necessary, proposing changes. Elections take place every two years. According to the statutes, there are 27 representatives for around 2700 children and young people in the community based on the 1 percent key. The last election took place on June 25, 2018, and all 15 candidates were elected to the panel. The board has now shrunk to 14.

The central figure in the coat of arms of the municipality of Henstedt-Ulzburg is the three-leaved oak branch. It refers to the 1970 unification of the three previously independent towns Henstedt, Ulzburg and Götzberg, of which Ulzburg even had its own coat of arms. The common stem indicates the sense of togetherness of the districts under the common communal roof. The sheets provide information about the type of forest cover in all three villages, including a royal wood in Henstedt. The floating crown of the wall symbolizes the medieval “Olzeborch”, the traces of which have been preserved on a hill, still called the “castle” today. Nothing is known about their owners. The foundation stones of a past castle found on another, neighboring elevation are also of unknown origin. The Bek, on which both hills are located, becomes the Pinnau further west. The source of the Alster is located in the district of Henstedt. The waves in the base of the shield indicate this.

Culture
The community center is the meeting point for many events in the community. It not only offers rooms to clubs and associations, but can also be rented by citizens of the community for private celebrations. The members of Bürger-Aktiv meet regularly in the Kulturkate, but the Kate is also used for music evenings, meetings, readings, seminars and VHS literature days.
In 2009 the Henstedt-Ulzburg Art and Culture Week (KuKuHU) was established. In the week of Pentecost, over 100 artists throughout Henstedt-Ulzburg are volunteering arts and crafts, music, painting, etc. a. issued without admission.

There is a windmill in the Götzberg district . The Galerieholländer, a flour mill from 1877, has well-preserved technology. In the end, as a compromise, a new bridge in the style of the previous structure was built at the same location and opened to traffic in 2013.

The community gained national fame in 1972 with Dieter Wedel's debut television film, the three-part street sweeper Once in a Lifetime - the story of a home in which the Semmeling family is building a house near the Alster spring in Henstedt-Ulzburg. The external filming took place on site.

Through the merger of FC Union Ulzburg, MTV Henstedt-Ulzburg and SV Henstedt-Rhen, the major sports club SVHU was created with over 400 instructors and coaches at the beginning of 2009. The new SV Henstedt-Ulzburg (SVHU) competes with VfL Pinneberg (5543 members) for the title of the largest sports club in Schleswig-Holstein. With 56 youth teams, the SVHU should have the largest youth department in the country in 2009; In the Segeberg district, the large club provides a third of all teams. Social associations and institutions include the German Red Cross and the volunteer fire brigade with their music train founded in 1926 . With the stations Henstedt-Ulzburg and Ulzburg Süd there are two train stations that are each served by all three lines of the AKN. For residents of the district of Rhen, the Meeschensee station on the A2 line in Norderstedt can also be cheap. The journey time to Hamburg Central Station is around 50 to 60 minutes, to Elmshorn around 35 minutes, and to Kiel it is around 80 minutes. Several thought have already been given to speeding up the rail link, which is not competitive compared to the road. In 2008, for example, it was examined whether a significant improvement in the existing public transport offer by extending the Hamburg Airport S-Bahn to the AKN route and the associated S-Bahn via Henstedt-Ulzburg to Kaltenkirchen is possible by 2015. This variant failed because of the high costs. The AKN and the state of Schleswig-Holstein are now striving to electrify the existing AKN line from Hamburg-Eidelstedt to Kaltenkirchen with an overhead line and to integrate it into the Hamburg S-Bahn network. With the expansion, Henstedt-Ulzburg would also be connected to Hamburg's city center by S-Bahn without having to change trains, and travel time could also be shortened by a few minutes, as there would be no change in Hamburg-Eidelstedt.
The buses of Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein (VHH) connect the districts of the community with the AKN station Henstedt-Ulzburg, which is the center of the town. From here bus line 293 leads via Rhen and Norderstedt-Harksheide to Norderstedt Mitte underground station. There is also the regional bus line 7141 from the AKN station Henstedt-Ulzburg via Henstedt, Götzberg, Nahe and Itzstedt to Bad Oldesloe .

Volunteer firefighter
The fire brigade of the municipality of Henstedt-Ulzburg was founded in 1970, and the three previously independent volunteer fire brigades Henstedt, Ulzburg and Götzberg were incorporated. Around 170 comrades are currently doing their voluntary service in these three fire departments. The radio site name of the Henstedt-Ulzburg fire department is "60". The Henstedt fire department is the oldest of the three fire departments, it was founded in 1889. In the central fire station, the Henstedt fire brigade has, in addition to the special vehicles, a TLF 16/25 tank tender and an LF 16/12 fire fighting group vehicle.
The Ulzburg fire brigade is also housed in the central fire station. The fire fighters of the fire brigade, founded in 1907, have an emergency fire fighting group vehicle HLF 20 and a fire fighting group vehicle LF 20 available. The fire brigade music train is affiliated to the Ulzburg fire brigade.
The second fire station is located in the district of Götzberg, in which around 30 fire brigade members of the Götzberg volunteer fire brigade, founded in 1934, are housed with an emergency fire fighting group vehicle HLF 10 and a team transport vehicle MTF.
In addition to the six vehicles assigned to the individual fire brigades, a number of special vehicles are kept available, all of which are kept in the central fire station that was shared and enlarged in 2008. This is a MCU 1 and a MCU 2 for operational control at different sized damage situations, a versatile multipurpose vehicle MZF, a trolley logistics (GW-L2), a rescue vehicle RW 2, a turntable ladder DLK 23-12cc, an MTF and an LF 8/6, which are mostly used by the youth fire brigade . The fleet comprises a total of 14 vehicles.
The Henstedt-Ulzburg youth fire department, founded in 1964, is the oldest youth fire department in the Segeberg district. Over half of all active members of the three fire departments come from the Henstedt-Ulzburg youth fire department. Around 40 girls and boys between the ages of 12 and 18 are currently active in this.
Originally founded as part of the Ulzburg volunteer fire brigade since 1926, the music train with 24 active musicians also belongs to the fire brigade.

In addition to four primary schools, Henstedt-Ulzburg has a grammar school and two community schools. Primary schools are the Ulzburg primary school, the Lütte School in Ulzburg-Süd, which opened in 2008, the Rhen primary school and the Beckersberg primary school, which is connected to the community school. On the Rhen there is the community school Rhen, on Beckersberg in Henstedt the community school "Olzeborchschule", which started operations in the school year 2010/2011 and emerged from the Hauptschule am Beckersberg and the Realschule in the school center.
The educational offer is completed by the Alstergymnasium, which opened in 1978 in Maurepasstraße, with over 1000 students and around 100 teachers. Until 2010, the secondary school was also housed in the building, which was then called the Henstedt-Ulzburg school center and is often called the “Green School” because of its color. The forum of the Alstergymnasium is often used next to the community center for larger events (e.g. for the music competition "Talented" or benefit concerts). Nationwide, the school made a name for itself, especially in competitions such as Business @ School or Jugend Debattiert. The Frogs , who played in the second handball league until 2016, play their home games in the two sports halls . The youth handball and soccer teams at the grammar school are very successful and have been national winners several times.
Other educational institutions in Henstedt-Ulzburg are the adult education center and the community library and mediothek near the town hall in Ulzburg. There are also ten day-care centers, two youth centers and a special school in the community.
