List of the noble families of Austria under the Enns / A – H
The list of the noble families of Austria under the Enns contains the most important noble families from Austria under the Enns , which includes today's Lower Austria and Vienna , namely those families that were included in the estates. The list is based on the status of 1840, shortly before the estates lost their importance due to the revolution of 1848. The extinct sexes were added. Also included are all families related to Lower Austria who have an article.
Wißgrill mentions many more genders. Nor are the many families still ennobled at the end of the monarchy.
Due to the headquarters of the central administrative authorities in Vienna, many families from different countries came to Austria under the Enns, especially after 1620 in the course of the counter-formation or after the coalition wars in 1815. Quite a number of families who had lived in the country for a long time had to leave the country because they had theirs did not want to give up evangelical faith. The rural genders were very mixed internationally at the end of the monarchy, there were families from Northern Germany to Italy, from Russia, Spain and Ireland, in addition to the Habsburg countries such as Hungary, Bohemia, Carniola etc.
The list is an alphabetical overview of Lower Austrian noble families. It contains information on name variants, status, time of ennoblement and inclusion in the nobility register, origin and distribution. Furthermore, the headquarters or important seats in Lower Austria, well-known personalities (with article) and the coat of arms of the sex.
- rank
Rank and prestige within the nobility were defined according to the age of the sex. Wissgrill lists exactly how long a family has been accepted into the state's gentry or knighthood. The oldest gentry families were called the Apostles . The long-established noble families differentiated the "old" gentry families from the new ones. You should only belong to the old gentlemen's class in the third generation (after admission to the gentry's class in Lower Austria). Emperor Rudolf II confirmed this privilege in 1588 and 1593.
