The 2019/20 season of the Austrian Ice Hockey League began on September 13, 2019 and ended on March 8, 2020. The play-offs were canceled due to the 2019/2020 coronavirus pandemic , so no champions were determined.

In advance

Participating teams

Eleven clubs have registered for the 2019/20 season. The Czech club Orli Znojmo initially did not submit a report for the new season after disputes about discrimination against referees and TV money, but announced in April 2019. The Croatian representative KHL Medveščak Zagreb stopped playing after the 2018/19 regular season and switched to the International Hockey League for the 2019/20 season .

The AHL Club VEU Feldkirch submitted an application to participate in the EBEL at the beginning of 2019, but it was withdrawn at the end of March or postponed to 2020. The reason given was the lack of lead time.

Trainer

EC Red Bull Salzburg signed the US-American Matt McIlvane, a new coach, who was to succeed Greg Poss, who was dismissed during the previous season. The EHC Linz extended the contract of Tom Rowe , who was also only signed during the season , under whom the team's performance had improved significantly after Troy Ward was dismissed . The EC VSV reacted to the bad results of the previous season and awarded the post of head coach to the Finn Jyrki Aho despite the current contract with Gerhard Unterluggauer .
