Charles Grimes (oarsman)

Charles Livingston Grimes (born July 9, 1935 in Washington, DC , † February 5, 2007 in New York City ) was an American rower and Olympic champion.

Life

Grimes was born in Washington, DC to Charles Pennebaker Grimes and Louise Davis Ireland Grimes. He attended Groton School as well as Yale University and Harvard Law School , where he completed a law degree. During his student days he played basketball and American football .

Grimes took part in the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne , where he won a gold medal in rowing eight with the American team. It was the last time a university team won a gold medal.

After graduating from Yale in 1957 and Harvard Law School in 1960, he served briefly as an attorney. He then worked as a financial advisor and investor . He appeared as a plaintiff in the Grimes v. Donald , 673 A.2d 1207 (Del. 1996). In the United States, the process is considered to be a milestone in corporate law in Delaware .

His wife, Jane Brown Grimes, was President of the United States Tennis Association from 2007 to 2008 .
