Yearbook of shipping
The GDR book series Jahrbuch der Schiffahrt appeared from 1961 to 1990 with an interruption in 1987 and 1988. The total of 28 volumes was published by Transpress - VEB Verlag für Verkehrwesen Berlin . The concerns and goals were formulated in the first annual volume as follows: "The Yearbook of Shipping makes its readers aware of the successes in building up our shipping as a part of socialist transport. ... Another task ... it should be, our friends from the Soviet Union ... and the To give other socialist countries the opportunity to report to readers of the GDR who are interested in the problems of shipping on the rapid upswing in shipping in their countries and on their experiences and work results. ”(E. Kramer, foreword, Jahrbuch der Schiffahrt 1961).
The annual volumes established themselves as the maritime standard work of the GDR and understood themselves as a "panoramic view of national and international shipping, port management, fishing and shipbuilding". Each volume contained an average of 160 pages on art paper , was 23.5 × 27.5 cm in size, was bound in linen until 1980 and had a colored dust jacket. Each yearbook contained around 20 current articles in words and pictures, some with color photos, by experts from the GDR and abroad, especially the world socialist system. The authors include representatives of all maritime branches of the GDR's economy, such as combine and shipyard directors, shipbuilding engineers, economists, captains, marine engineers, shipping doctors, naval officers, teachers, but also historians and museum directors. With the turnaround and peaceful revolution in the GDR and the German reunification , the publication was discontinued.
