The Houston County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Perry , which was named after Oliver Hazard Perry .

The county is located slightly east of the geographic center of Georgia and covers an area of ​​984 square kilometers, eight square kilometers of which is water and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Twiggs County , Bleckley County , Pulaski County , Dooly County , Macon County , Peach County, and Bibb County .

The county is part of the Warner Robins metropolitan area .

history

Houston County was formed on May 15, 1821 as the 51st county of Georgia from land of the Creek Indians. It was named after John Houstoun , a Georgia governor from 1778 to 1784.
