The Houston County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Perry , which was named after Oliver Hazard Perry .

The county is located slightly east of the geographic center of Georgia and covers an area of 984 square kilometers, eight square kilometers of which is water and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Twiggs County , Bleckley County , Pulaski County , Dooly County , Macon County , Peach County, and Bibb County .

The county is part of the Warner Robins metropolitan area .

history

Houston County was formed on May 15, 1821 as the 51st county of Georgia from land of the Creek Indians. It was named after John Houstoun , a Georgia governor from 1778 to 1784.
