Course of the road

The Münchener Straße is according to the Federal Law Gazette a country road in the city of Salzburg (in Austria ). It connects an inner area within the city over a length of 3.8 km with the state border with Germany near Freilassing . In the inner city, the street is called Münchner Bundesstraße , but it also includes a small part of Ignaz-Harrer-Straße .

history

The once 6.6 km long Munich Reichsstraße led from downtown Salzburg via Lehen (from 1816) to the Bavarian border. In 1893 there was only a single toll station on this route at Klausentor at the beginning of today's Müllner Hauptstraße.

The Münchner Reichsstraße is one of those Reichsstraße that were taken over as federal roads in 1921. (The name "Münchner Reichsstraße" continued to be used many times during the First Republic .) In 1938 it was rebuilt in connection with the construction of what was then the Reichsautobahn towards Vienna, today's Westautobahn (A1), as a bypass from Liefering .

The intersection of today's Münchener Straße with the Westautobahn in the Liefering district forms the Salzburg Mitte exit , which was last opened in 2001/2002 with a separate pedestrian and bicycle path in the form of a roundabout with two overpasses over the autobahn (one bridge and one over the Lieferinger Tunnel ) has been redesigned.

course

Münchener Straße begins in the Salzburg district of Lehen at the intersection Ignaz-Harrer-Straße - Rudolf-Biebl-Straße - Schumacherstraße and goes off Wiener Straße (B1) . It is initially called Ignaz-Harrer-Straße in the city center and then continues to be called Münchner Bundesstraße until its end . It crosses the Liefering district in a north-westerly direction and ends after the former customs and border control station Freilassing Saalbrücke (which is located solely on Salzburg soil) on the bridge over the Saalach at the level of the middle of the river, which forms the border with Germany. On the German side, the road will continue as the federal highway 304, which begins here, to Dachau near Munich.

The Glan Bridge, the city boundary between Lehen and Liefering

The Münchener Straße crosses the Glanbach for the first time at the place officially known as the Glanbrücke , which forms the border between Lehen and Liefering here. As a result, it crosses the Altglan twice, the northern branch of the Glanbach. After a good third of the way, Münchener Straße crosses the Westautobahn; the last third of the street leads through an industrial park.

The entire length of the road is considered to be at risk of congestion; an expansion in the outer area was completed in 2015. The Münchner Bundesstraße is used by the Salzburg trolleybus line  4 and the bus line 24 to Freilassing.

Buildings

The following are important and notable buildings along Münchener Strasse:

Not far from the beginning of the street, the Lehen Stadium stood until 2002 , where today, among other things, the Salzburg City Library is located. Just before the end of the road at the border crossing is the trout trail settlement .

B155  Like the other former federal highways, the Münchner Bundesstraße was part of the federal administration. Since April 1, 2002, it has been under state administration and continues to have the B in the number, but not the name Bundesstraße.
