The Seminole County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Donalsonville , named after Jonathan E. Donalson , a member of a prominent family who pioneered Decatur County.

The county is located in the extreme southwest of Georgia, on the Alabama border to the west and about 15 km to the south from Florida's northern border. It has an area of 664 square kilometers, of which 48 square kilometers are water surface and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Early County , Miller County and Decatur County .
history
Seminole County was formed on July 8, 1920 from parts of Decatur County and Early County. It was named after the Seminoles , a tribe of Indians, who after the arrival of white settlers left his country in the Chattahoochee River Valley and into the Everglades of Florida moved. On the way there, led by Osceola , they fought two bloody battles with the soldiers of the US Army.

According to the 2010 census, the then 8,729 inhabitants were distributed among 3,509 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.46 people per household. There are a total of 4797 households.
70.4% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 2.95 persons. Children under the age of 18 lived in 30.4% of all households and persons aged 65 or over in 34.1% of all households.
25.5% of the population were younger than 20 years, 20.1% were 20 to 39 years old, 28.1% were 40 to 59 years old, and 26.4% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 44 years. 47.4% of the population were male and 52.6% were female.
64.1% of the population identified themselves as white, 33.4% as African-American , 0.1% as Native American and 0.4% as Asian Americans . 1.0% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.0% to several ethnic groups. 2.3% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
The average annual income per household was 35,410 USD , while 19.1% of the population lived below the poverty line.
