The Pickens County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Jasper .
geography
The county is located in northern Georgia, about 60 km from the northern borders of Tennessee and North Carolina and about 100 km to the west from Alabama . It covers an area of 603 square kilometers, of which two square kilometers are water, and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Dawson County , Cherokee County , Gordon County, and Gilmer County .
The county is part of the metropolitan area of Atlanta .
history
Pickens County was formed on December 5, 1853 as the 100th county in Georgia from parts of Cherokee County and Gilmer County. It was named after Andrew Pickens , a general in the Revolutionary War.

According to the 2010 census, the then 29,431 inhabitants were distributed over 11,291 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.57 people per household. There are a total of 13,692 households.
74.6% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 2.97 persons. There were children under the age of 18 in 32.1% of all households and persons aged 65 or over in 29.8% of all households.
24.8% of the population were younger than 20 years, 22.2% were 20 to 39 years old, 28.9% were 40 to 59 years old, and 24.2% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 42 years. 49.1% of the population were male and 50.9% were female.
95.7% of the population identified themselves as whites, 1.1% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 0.4% as Asian Americans . 1.3% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.2% to several ethnic groups. 2.8% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
The average annual income per household was 56,769 USD , while 10.3% of the population lived below the poverty line.

There are marble deposits in Pickens County . The white marble quarried there was used, among other things, for the construction of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC . The so-called Georgia Marble Festival takes place in Jasper every year in October . This is also where the county's headquarters, built in 1949, are located, whose facade is also made of marble.
