The Crawford County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Knoxville .
geography
The county is located about 25 miles northwest of the geographic center of Georgia and covers an area of 846 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Monroe County , Bibb County , Peach County , Taylor County, and Upson County .
The county is part of the Macon Metropolitan Area .
history
Crawford County was formed on December 9, 1822 as the 55th County of Georgia from Indian Land and parts of Houston County. Later parts of Macon County and Talbot County were added. It was named after William H. Crawford , the then US Treasury Secretary.
Worth seeing
Crawford County has preserved many historic buildings that are listed on the National Historic Buildings Database. Particularly noteworthy are the Crawford County Courthouse from 1831 and the County Jail from 1882. There are also 19 archaeologically significant sites.
