Langenhahn is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in northeastern Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Westerburg .

geography

Langenhahn is located in the Oberwesterwald . The Elbbach , which rises in the neighboring town of Ailertchen and flows into the Lahn near Limburg an der Lahn, flows through the municipality . The municipality is located at an altitude of 400 to 505  m above sea level. NHN .

The municipality of Langenhahn consists of the four districts of Langenhahn, Hinterkirchen, Hintermühlen and Hölzenhausen.

history

Langenhahn was first mentioned in a document in 1334 as Landenhain . In 1386, Hölzenhausen followed as Holtershusen , in 1417 Hinterkirchen as a rear church and in 1593 Hintermühlen as uff der Hintermuell in Braeschied . The place name Langenhahn is traced back to the personal name Lando.

Langenhahn and Hintermühlen belonged to the parish and court of Rotenhain from the second half of the 15th century at the latest . Hölzenhausen was not part of the parish until 1816. At the beginning of the 20th century the parish of Rotenhain was dissolved. The St. Sebastian chapel, located near the village, belonged to the Willmenrod parish in 1525, but its rights faded in favor of Rotenhain in the following decades. The core of the nave seems to come from the Romanesque period and was extended to the west in the 17th century. In 1922 the Cordis Jesu Church was built in the village. In 1925 the place left the Rotenhain parish and became a parish vicarie together with Hintermühlen, Hinterkirchen and Hölzenhausen .

Today's community Langenhahn was re-formed on June 7, 1969 from the dissolved communities Hinterkirchen, Hölzenhausen and Langenhahn. As early as April 1, 1969, the community of Hintermühlen was incorporated into Langenhahn.

Eight Turkish taxpayers were registered in Langenhahn in 1545 , eight fireplaces in 1578, seven families in 1711, 127 residents in 1809 and 150 residents in 1851. Hintermühlen consisted of five families in 1711, 74 in 1809 and 119 in 1851.

The council in Langenhahn consists of 16 council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Justification for the coat of arms: The two diagonally crossed arrows, which remind of the martyrdom of Saint Sebastian , symbolize the St. Sebastian chapel. The six-spoke mill wheel stands for the mill trade, which has been of outstanding importance for the economic history of the district. The four diamonds symbolize the four districts and refer to the manorial aspect. The red tincture is reminiscent of the Diezische, the blue of the Nassau national color.

  • The place has a station on the railway line Oberwesterwaldbahn (Limburg (Lahn) - Westerburg - Nistertal / Bad Marienberg - Hachenburg - Altenkirchen - Au (Sieg)), on which the regional trains of the line RB 90 of the Hessian state railway HLB to Rhineland-Palatinate -Cycle every day approx. Every hour. In the interest of a direct connection without changing trains, this line was extended to Siegen at the timetable change in December 2015 via Wissen and Betzdorf (Sieg), during rush hour the trains are tied through to Kreuztal. The highest point of the Oberwesterwaldbahn with a height of 463  m above sea level. NHN is located in Langenhahn.
  • At the bus station of the Westerburg train station there are connections to regional buses in the direction of Rennerod, Bad Marienberg and Montabaur.

Sports

The football club SG Langenhahn / Rothenbach is from Langenhahn. The team reached in the 1999/2000 season promotion to the association league, today's Rhineland League . At the end of the 2008/2009 season, the team was withdrawn from the regional leagues. In the 2009/2010 season, the game operations in the district league D and immediately made promotion to the district league C. In the 2012/2013 season, the next promotion to the district league B was achieved. In the 2019/20 season, the first team played in the district league B Westerwald / victory 1 and the second in the district league D Westerwald / victory 1 . In Langenhahn there is a hard court and a multi-purpose hall that is mostly used for sporting activities.
