The Lee County is a county in the US state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Leesburg .
geography
The county is located in central southwest Georgia, about 90 km to the west from Alabama and about 110 km to the south from the northern border of Florida . It has an area of 938 square kilometers, of which 16 square kilometers are water and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Crisp County , Worth County , Dougherty County , Terrell County and Sumter County .
The county is part of the Albany metropolitan area .
history
Lee County was formed as Original County on June 9, 1825. It was named, like Leesburg, after Richard Henry Lee , who had proposed in the continental Congress that the new colonies in the south should be free and independent.
The first county administration in the courthouse was in Starkville until it was totally destroyed by fire in 1856. Thereafter, Leesburg became the county seat. But this too burned down completely in 1872.

According to the 2010 census, the 28,298 inhabitants at that time were distributed over 9,706 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.83 people per household. There are a total of 10,276 households.
79.7% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 3.17 persons. There were children under the age of 18 in 44.4% of all households and persons aged 65 and over in 17.5% of all households.
30.8% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 25.7% were 20 to 39 years old, 29.9% were 40 to 59 years old, and 13.6% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 36 years. 49.8% of the population were male and 50.2% were female.
76.9% of the population identified themselves as whites, 18.6% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 2.2% as Asian Americans . 0.7% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.4% to several ethnic groups. 2.0% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
The average annual income per household was 62,797 USD , while 11.9% of the population lived below the poverty line.
