- August 14th : Emilio Comici and the brothers Angelo and Giuseppe Dimai are the first to climb the north face of the Große Zinne in the Sexten Dolomites .
- September 3 : Yevgeny Mikhailovich Abalakov is the only one of six expedition members to manage the first ascent of Stalin Peak , the highest mountain in the Soviet Union in the Pamirs . Expedition leader Nikolai Gorbunow has to give up shortly before the summit.
