- February 5th to 12th : The British Empire Games 1938 are taking place in Sydney parallel to the 150th anniversary of the city . 15 countries take part in the third edition of the Empire Games .

- April: The European Cup of the national soccer teams has to be canceled after the annexation of Austria to the German Reich. Hungary tops the table at this point.
- April 3 : The " follow-up game " between a German and an Austrian soccer team takes place in the Prater Stadium in Vienna . The team from the “Ostmark”, which plays in red-white-red instead of the traditional black and white dress, wins against the “Altreich” with goals from Matthias Sindelar and Karl Sesta 2-0.
- June 4th to 19th : Italy defends its title at the 1938 World Cup in France. The Brazilian Leônidas da Silva is the top scorer of the tournament with seven goals .
- June 26th to September 11th : Slavia Prague wins the Mitropa Cup 1938 .
- 3rd to 5th September : Estonia wins the Baltic Cup 1938 .

- January 9 : The FC Schalke 04 won the 1937 tschammerpokal with a 2: 1 against Fortuna Dusseldorf and after the championship and the Double .
- April 14th : By order of the National Socialist Football Department , the competing Bochum sports clubs Turnverein 1848 , TuS 1908 and Germania 1906 have to merge to form VfL Bochum 1848 .
- July 3 : Hannover 96 becomes German soccer champion for the first time .

- February 5th / 6th : The 1st men's handball world championship takes place with a tournament everyone against everyone in Germany. Participating nations are Denmark, the German Empire, Austria and Sweden. The German Reich becomes the first world champion.
- 7th to 10th July : The German Reich also becomes world champion at the men's field handball world championship in Germany.
