Breitenau is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Ransbach-Baumbach community .
geography
The community is located in the Westerwald between Koblenz and Siegen on the edge of the Rhine-Westerwald nature park .

history
The village was first mentioned in 1265 as Bredenowe . From 1343 to 1664 it was Isenburg , then Electorate of Trier , in 1803 the community passed from Kurtrier to Nassau . In 1866 the village became part of Prussia .

Municipal council
The council in Breitenau consists of twelve council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman. In the 2014 election, personalized proportional representation was used; the twelve seats were divided between two groups of voters . In 2009 and before, the council members were elected by majority vote.

The association “St. Georgsbläser Haiderbach ”with its approximately 45 musicians strong wind orchestra is an integral part of the church and local community. It also promotes the musicality of the children and young people living on the Haiderbach with training, pre- and youth orchestras, flute groups and early musical education. In addition to appearances within the Haiderbach communities, such as at the traditional fair, the St. Georgsbläser can also be heard again and again at large carnival and fair parades and concerts. One of the highlights is the "Singing, sounding Haiderbach" with the Haiderbach choir community and the church choir, a concert evening that is held every two years in the Haiderbachhalle.
